1 / 2Askham Bryan Wildlife & Conservation Park
📍 York, North West
Wildlife park housing over 100 species including ring-tailed lemurs, meerkats, wallabies, white-lipped tamarins, and barn owls. Animal encounter experiences, keeper talks, pram-friendly paths, and a playground on-site.
Came here to visit the wildlife park as my daughter is doing a T Level here. Was absolutely surprised at how good a day out it was for the price! Has looked at other places to go within our area & would have cost me about £60 just to get in - was only £23 for 3 of us to get in here. They had talks at different animals/times through out the day & the animals are very well cared for. The place is larger than I expected & really well kept. A lot of it looks quite new & I was super impressed with the facilities. There’s a play area that was good although my 7yr old said it was a bit young for him but still managed to enjoy going on some of the larger pieces. There’s a cafe that was reasonably priced too. They do have picnic benches dotted around too, so you can take your own food to keep costs down. I’m surprised they don’t advertise this place better but this did mean it wasn’t busy at all & perfect for us to potter about without fighting to see anything. Would definitely recommend this place for anyone living within a 45 minute drive as it’s a fairly cheap day out & kept us all entertained for a good 3hrs.
🏆 Family Action Verdict
Best for families with younger children seeking a genuinely relaxed wildlife experience without the crowds or pricing of major attractions. The animal encounters and keeper talks add real educational depth — the armadillo experience in particular receives strong praise.

“Oh my gosh. I wasn't really sure what to expect but this was fantastic! It's such a great place. There are plenty of picnic spots, and there's a bear camp with a reading library full of children's books. I took my two nieces, and they loved it. We managed to catch the otter feeding, which was great. And we we're lucky enough to hear the kookaburra laugh! We got there just after opening, and it was very quiet but got a bit busier toward lunchtime but not loads of people. The staff were fantastic and super friendly. Would highly recommend to anyone wanting to have a lovely day out at a wildlife park.”

“Lovely afternoon out. Great for kids and adults. Easy access for prams and wheelchairs. There's also a little cafe near the entrance and a coffee cart inside the park. There's a play area and art centre for kids.”
