Had a great visit on my own early this morning, the staff were very friendly and welcoming and the exhibits were interesting, eye catching and very enlightening! Glad to see the white deer was still on exhibition to, I remember my Grandad taking us to see it as a child and him telling us he had seen it alive roaming around near there farm before it met it's unfortunate end! Loved the Mycology exhibit and got some good pictures of the mushroom models on display. The gift shop was great although I will have to go back when I have more money to spend! Great reasonably price little cafe to. The staff in the gift shop were most helpful as I enquired if they still had the William Blake sketch on display which I could not find and they gave me someones email address who I can contact and they may be able to arrange a private viewing for me...🤞...🌟⭐🌟⭐🌟

🏆 Family Action Verdict

Best for families with children aged four to twelve who enjoy museums and aquariums without paying admission. The Egyptian gallery and aquarium are the standout draws for primary-school-age children. Toddlers benefit from the pram-friendly layout and interactive screens at low heights.

🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 Amazing Experience at Bolton Museum, Aquarium and Library! I had a fantastic time visiting the Bolton Museum, Aquarium and Library. It’s such a hidden gem in the heart of Bolton — beautifully maintained, educational, and fun for all ages. The museum has a wonderful mix of history, art, and interactive exhibits, while the aquarium adds an extra touch of excitement, especially for children. The Egyptian gallery is particularly impressive and full of fascinating displays. The library staff were friendly, knowledgeable, and always ready to help. The entire place is spotless and welcoming, making it a perfect spot for families, students, or anyone looking to spend a relaxing and inspiring day. Best of all, it’s completely free! Highly recommended — Bolton can truly be proud of this place!

Great place kids really enjoyed. Free entrance. Spent a couple of hours there and could have bee. There a but longer. They were also refurbishing some parts so when fully open may need more time Kids really enjoyed the aquarium such nice areas of fish and love How it details where they're from. Cute little aquarium area. The museum part upstairs took some time to go through. Three nice size rooms and they had different papers for kids to follow the trail and spot things. Wasa really great couple of hours. Admission is free (can give donation) and NCP was only £2.80 - think was 2 or 2.5 hours. Was really sweet trip kids really enjoyed and we didnt even get to the lobrary! Thank you Bolton.

I've been visiting Bolton museum since being a child and it still captures my imagination all these years later. From the piranhas in the basement aquarium to the well preserved Egyptian mummy in his new tomb, Bolton has something of interest for everyone. There are often little quizzes for children to do and a small shop at the top of the main stairs. There is a beautiful library and small cafe area. Entrance is free but there's no parking actually at the museum. There is a nearby multi-storey car park. I was horrified to see a Nintendo SNES on display..remember that? Only one question remains..do you remember there ever being a full T-rex skeleton at Bolton museum?
