The gym’s facilities are excellent, especially considering the affordable membership price. It’s in a convenient location, and the staff are always welcoming and professional, particularly Diana at the desk, who consistently creates a friendly and inviting atmosphere. The classes are also very well run, with the cycle sessions led by Veronica standing out for their energy and quality instruction. Although the gym can get busy at times, the members and staff are always courteous and helpful. I would highly recommend this gym to anyone looking for great value and a positive environment.

πŸ† Family Action Verdict

Best for families seeking a characterful pool with consistently high hygiene standards at an affordable membership price. Swimming lessons are available and the Victorian building adds a genuine point of interest for older children. The gym gets warm due to ventilation constraints β€” factor this in for post-swim workouts.

ℹ️ What to Know Before You Go

πŸ’‘Showering before entering the pool is strictly enforced β€” build this into your arrival routine
⏰Visit during super off-peak hours to avoid the busiest lane times
🎟️Accessibility is strong β€” poolside hoist and accessible changing rooms are available
πŸš—Outdoor sports pitches are available for hire separately from pool and gym access

β€œVery well maintained pool with a period charm about it. I like the frieze at the deep-end depicting a few swimmers and a Victorian couple surveying the view. The insistence on showering before swimming is very welcome as not all 'Better' pools are so good on this. Minor quibbles amount to personal preference : the pool is a tiny bit too warm and i much prefer open plan showers to the cubicle type though might not be practical given the mixed changing rooms. Would definitely come back if i'm in the area.”

β€œFirst Impression is excellent. I had a tour of the centre today. Zandesha was very thorough and answered all my questions with a positive approach. I'm looking forward to joining the gym soon. The equipment looks good so will transition from my existing gym once I've cancelled my membership. I'll update my post when I've visited and worked out a few times.”

β€œThere’s two types of gyms out there; type a) where the equipment is all procured by Karen who sits in a central office somewhere, never trained a day in her life and selects the most uncomfortable, unsatisfying equipment that is under repair more often than used. And there’s Type b) where a fitness enthusiast selects the right mix of high quality machines to give an enjoyable full-body workout. I’m happy to say that this gym is the latter. They’re well-thought out and really good quality. Bravo whoever put this gym together. The gym as a whole isn’t perfect though. It’s a greenhouse and I’m dripping with sweat even when it’s 19 degrees outside. I’m pretty sure the ventilation system isn’t setup properly as it should pull air in one side and expel it the other. Currently they haven’t optimised airflow. They need to get a specialist in to resolve this issue as my partner refused to use this gym for that very reason. It’s pretty packed. I’d say it’s usable super off-peak but it’s probably difficult to get a decent workout in on weekday evenings. Overall, for someone like me it works well. I don’t mind a bit of high-heat sauna simulation.”
