1 / 3Colonel Stephens Railway Museum
π Tenterden, Greater London
Free-entry museum at Tenterden Town Station documenting Colonel Stephens' historic light railways through vintage signage, artefacts, and well-organised exhibits. Wheelchair accessible with a second-hand bookshop on site.
An amazingly interesting museum. Set out in a very intuitive way. Very well thought out with brilliant exhibits. And it's freeπ just remember to leave a donation so this wonderful museum can continue to educate and entertain
π Family Action Verdict
Best for train-loving families combining the museum with a Kent & East Sussex Railway steam ride from the adjacent platform. The compact, well-curated displays suit all ages and won't overwhelm young children. Plan 30 minutes for the museum itself before boarding a steam train.

βSuch a lovely museum! The gentleman at the desk was really helpful, informative and lovely! It's free entry, but they have a donation box when you exit the museum and there's another donation box near the train, as seen on the picture, to maintain the locomotives. Tenterden Town station is literally next to this museum, where you can see the steam locomotives or if you're taking the train from there to Bodiam. Check out the Kent & East Sussex Railway for timetables and tickets. β€οΈβ

βGreat little museum, lots to see in a fairly small space. Just adds to the tenterden station experience. Plenty of parking and very close to the town center. Free to enter but please leave a donation.β

βInteresting small museum with information on old signage and signals. The place was empty and there is a second hand gift shop at the entrance. Worth a visit and 30 minutes is enoughβ
