1 / 2East Herts Miniature Railway
đ Ware, Greater London
Multiple trains run on two loops through Van Hage Garden Centre grounds on 10-minute journeys. Toddler-friendly, outdoors, with a cafe and free parking on site. Operates weekends and school holidays.
We had such an amazing time with family and friends. The staff was very friendly and kind, making our experience very enjoyable and full of smiles.
đ Family Action Verdict
Best for families with train-obsessed toddlers and children up to age 8. At under two pounds per ride, multiple laps are affordable â most families do three or more runs. The 10-minute loop suits short attention spans perfectly. Navigate through the garden centre to reach the railway; the ride itself is outdoors so dress for the weather.

âOn a trip back home we decided to make a detour... the East Herts Miniature Railway is located in the rather large Van Hage Garden Centre. It takes a bit of navigating to get through the garden centre out to where the railway is! There is a little ticket office where you can buy tickets (card thankfully accepted!) The railway itself has been set up really nicely, a trip through a tunnel and a ride over a pond included! The volunteers were great and friendly with the kids, and the steam train did a great job getting us round the track! It was raining on our visit so we got a little wet, but the station area where you get on etc. was nice and dry. A really great miniature railway, and for the kids (and me!) it made the visit to a garden centre worthwhile!â

âUnderpriced! Only ÂŖ1.50!? An amazing little gem in east Herts. We visited on Sat 14 September. It was busy but that only added to the experience for our 1 year old. We went on three times, and there were three different trains running. Very professionally run, clear safety protocols in place, and a fun couple of hours for us. Choo choo!â

âTook our 4year old grandson who loves trains and he couldn't contain his exicitement at what he saw and experienced. Went on it a few times and when he got home he told his mum that he is a very lucky boy as he got to go on it so many times! Such a fantastic service. Thankyou.â
