1 / 2Eccles Leisure Centre
đ Manchester, North West
Leisure centre with a 25-metre pool, 85-station refurbished gym, sports hall, and birthday party options. Morning sessions are quietest; after-school hours bring crowding and noise from unsupervised teens.
Went swimming here this morning. It was clean and modern. There were 5 changing cubicles in the mens wet changing room - as everybody asks and nobody ever says! The pool is big enough for most activities. This seems a long way from some of the other reviews I've read. I've posted photos of the changing room as there are none online. Limited obviously, owing to privacy of users!
đ Family Action Verdict
Best for families with younger children who can visit during morning sessions when the pool is at its quietest. Parents of teenagers should know gym access for under-16s is restricted to two machines with a cut-off time.

âDecent amount of equipment in the gym. However, between 3.30-6pm gangs of young feral teens are allowed to roam wild in the gym, creating mayhem, messing about on machines and blocking access to equipment. OCCASIONALLY there will be a staff member to control them. The free weights area is SUPPOSED to be for 16+, but again it is abused. And good luck finding a full pool to swim in. Every time I have been - at various times - part of it is roped off for lessons.â

âNice gym which I have been visiting for 2.5 years now and happend to become something like my second home. I would appreciate a bit more hygiene and regular cleaning - machines are visibly dirty and there is quite a bit of dust and spiderwebs here and there. Also group sessions are always too loud and keep their music on maximum which I find too much disruptive. But besides this, I am overall happy with the gym.â

âHave visited twice in the last week. The first time I thought I had made the wrong choice joining, it was so loud in the reception area. The second time I attended a Pilates class. That was awful. The class is in the sports hall, it is so noisy. Lots of noise and music from other areas of the sports hall. Pilates is supposed to be a relaxing experience, other classes I attend are in a designated studio, a relaxing environment.â
