1 / 3Harry's Hill
đ Salford, North West
A challenging hilltop climb in Salford rewarded with panoramic city views, wildlife spotting, and open space for picnics. Suited to active families with older children comfortable on steep, unmarked terrain.
A great place to see the city and the perseid meteor shower. The history of this pile of soil goes a long way back and is now largely forgotten in time. The climb to the top was long and arduous so make sure you bring provisions for lunch and dinner, a head torch and sturdy boots. Not for the faint hearted. It may be easier to cycle to the top but be careful not to disturb any badgers or nesting birds. Remember they were there first.
đ Family Action Verdict
Best for active families with older children who can handle a steep, unmarked climb and want a genuine outdoor adventure rather than a managed park. The summit views and open space reward the effort. Bring food, a head torch for evening visits, and sturdy boots â the site has no facilities.

âA lovely hidden gem that is great in the summer for picnics, strolls and walking the dogs. It's very huge so you could spend quite a few hours wondering and discovering the local wild life.â
