1 / 2Hemsworth Waterpark & Playworld
📍 Pontefract, North West
Hemsworth Waterpark features two lakes with sandy beach areas, an outdoor adventure playground with tower slides and climbing frames, pedalo hire, and fishing spots — set in spacious grounds with picnic lawns.
Fantastic place for a family day out. The beach area is clean and well maintained, and there’s plenty to keep the kids entertained for hours. Great play areas, lovely walking spots, and nice facilities nearby for food and drinks. Always a fun and relaxed atmosphere whenever we visit.
🏆 Family Action Verdict
Best for families with children who enjoy a mix of water play, structured adventure equipment, and open space to roam. The beach area makes this feel genuinely different from a standard park. Budget for parking plus paid playground entry if you plan to use Playworld. Pack food and drink — catering on site is sparse.

“Had a great time here today. Got here for 10am and parked (£3.00). Two outdoor parks one free and one £3 for over 2s. Not quite sure why you need to pay for this park but anyway we did and the beach and water was great too. Says no paddling or inflatables but no one took notice.”

“Decent little cafe, good sized lake to walk around, little beach is a great touch to be able to paddle in the water, a free park next door and paid for park in the grounds which is extra, 4 seater boats. If only staying a short time I would recommend parking at the top and walking down as onsite parking is £3 all day”

“The newly refurbished park is great, its a shame they removed the outer fence, npt as secure as it once was for the kiddies. A fair bit of litter around the park, but overall much better than it was. Recommended.”

Overview
The beach areas let children paddle freely with official signage suggesting otherwise. The paid adventure playground (Playworld) adds tower slides and climbing frames for older children, and a free playground sits adjacent for shorter visits. Pedalo hire runs on the lake when conditions allow. Walking paths circle both lakes with wildlife spotting along the route. The venue closes the paid playground in wet weather for safety. Parking is charged separately from playground entry.
