1 / 3Mid-Suffolk Light Railway
đ Stowmarket, Greater London
Heritage steam and diesel railway operated by volunteers with seasonal special events, an on-site cafe, free parking, and pram-friendly access. The Santa Express is among the most praised seasonal events in the region.
Was staying locally in a cottage in Stowupland within their welcome pack had a leaflet for Mid-Suffolk Light Railway, having checked the website we noticed it was their last open day before closing for the summer season and planned to make a visit, my son loves Railways and trains which MSLR offered a wide variety of rolling stock, When we arrived we were kindly greeted by the front of house staff in the ticket office and told about the end of season event which included some vintage vehicles, live music and morris dancing, the ticket allowed us access to all the site has to offer as well as unlimited trips on the railway, the Aspal station platform was still a working progress which meant we were not able to disembark and see the platform but it was an enjoyable day none the less, Great onsite facilities including a cafe, bar and multiple information displays about the sites history, ample parking for both regular perking and those who require disabled access and toilets
đ Family Action Verdict
Best for train-enthusiastic children and families wanting a relaxed outing with genuine heritage character. The Santa Express is outstandingly organised and suits children who appreciate the full event experience over ride length.

âWe went for their Santa express steam train ride and have to say excellent experience all round. The organisation was first class with complimentary mulled wine for the adults on arrival. You has seating allocated too and after a short train ride you got to see Santa as a family whilst the other family in your compartment went to see the engine and the swopped. Santa was very good with Mrs Claus too. Nice that Santa had name of our child ready and the present was good and age appropriate. Being honest short ride would be only negative but didn't bother us and probably a blessing for little children with short attention and patience lol. Thanks to all involved as think all volunteers.â

âWe booked the Santa event for our daughter. No waiting and everyone was so friendly from the parking attendants to the railway staff and shop staff. Will definitely book more events in the new year.â
