1 / 3Moss Side Leisure Centre
đ Hulme, North West
Well-maintained community leisure centre with swimming pools, gym, and structured swimming lessons for all ages. Family swim sessions run in both pools. Membership covers pool, gym, steam room, and sauna access.
Some really good changes have been made recently at the centre and I've had nothing but a great experience at the centre. The gyms are well-organised and clean, and there's a very welcoming space for women and families with a good range of equipment. The pool is well-lit and clean, and controlled access to the health suite which prevents overcrowding. There's sufficient swimming times for adults, children and families in both pools, and my daughter is also currently enjoying her swimming lessons. I can also now use the programme gym space with my daughter, which tends to be quieter and has a good range of equipment for cardio and free weights. For a membership that covers swimming, gym, fitness classes and use of the steam room and sauna, they are very affordable and way below other options. I fully recommend!
đ Family Action Verdict
Best for families wanting consistent, affordable access to swimming lessons and pool time in a genuinely welcoming community setting. The membership value is strong, covering multiple facilities. Instructors across swimming and fitness classes are regularly praised by name.

âI love this place, yes It needs a little bit of TLC (they'reworking on that), but the community of people there is what keeps me coming back week after week. Never before have I felt like I belonged in a fitness class, every gym I joined I quit after a couple weeks, but I have managed to regularly attend since I joined in Jan '25. Slowly increased my attendance from 1 day a week to now 3 or 4 which has meant a huge change in my quality of life and the way I'm now able to do many, many things I wasn't able to do before. Andrea's classes are tough, but SO MUCH FUN! She really does know how to turn "suffering" into joy and fun, and make you feel proud of your progress. If you're not sure this is the place for you, trust me, here you will find your path to a healthier, happier & more active lifestyle.â

âGreat staff who have worked really hard to improve the gym recently and raise standards. Loads of great classes to suit all levels of fitness and great studio spaces for each activity. New spin area is perfect for the class. New equipment has been most welcome. Looking forward to to seeing further improvements this year. Well done Moss Siders!â

âI would rate Four Star but am rating it Two Star due to the cutting policies of the Charitable Social Enterprise organization Better GLL, that benefits from tax advantages but is shifting members money- to who, what and where?! Instructors themselves who's classes I've attended-Andrea, Carrie and Doretta, are 5*- simply excellent. However, instructors, myself and every other member I've spoken to about this are frustrated that Better GLL has decided to stop using the money we pay for the music license that enables their instructors to use playlists they've crafted for classes. Instead Better GLL is now opting to go license free, which means potential AI dross and other unlicensed music. Yet membership price has just gone up again!Instructors are also not being compensated to have to create new playlists within the restrictive app, that also demands huge amounts of phone memory they will likely have to pay for out of their own pockets for. I've only stayed, paying more to Better GLL than private gyms, because the instructors are so good. All this inevitably means the quality of the experience will be lowered as music hugely postively impacts the energy, mood and mental wellbeing gained by attending classes. Over 4k people nationwide have signed this petition, to no response so far. I'm not sure a membership at Better GLL will be worth it now, which is a shame as I've been a member over 5 years and appreciate the community and support I've experienced at the numerous centres I go to. This decision stymies the excellence of the instructors and is akin to throwing a rusty old spanner into the works of a well oiled and continually updated machine that has been doing a wonderful job for many years. Sadly disappointed. If you believe in the cause for the petition and want to sign, please go to change dot org and search "Keep popular, licensed music in GLL gyms to protect the diverse and inclusive atmosphere". It's the first result, dated 17 December 2025.â
