Really friendly staff who have so much knowledge about what they have on show here at the museum, you can really tell that they have passion for what they are preserving πŸ’•

πŸ† Family Action Verdict

Best for families with children who are drawn to vehicles, engineering, and hands-on exploration β€” the ability to board actual vintage buses rather than just view them is the key differentiator. Free entry for under-sixteens removes the cost barrier entirely.

ℹ️ What to Know Before You Go

πŸ’‘Pick up a children's fun pack at the entrance β€” they structure the visit well for younger children
⏰Many buses can be boarded and explored inside β€” let children lead the way through the collection
🎟️Restoration projects are visible on the garage floor β€” staff will often explain ongoing work if asked
πŸš—The tea room is a comfortable break point for parents with very young children

β€œThe Museum of Transport is an absolute gem for anyone fascinated by the history of road travel, particularly buses. Stepping inside feels like a genuine trip back in time, largely thanks to the incredibly preserved collection of classic vehicles. The highlight of the museum is undoubtedly the sheer number of old school and public service buses, each telling a unique story of local and national commuting. You don't just admire these relics from a distanceβ€”you can often climb aboard and truly immerse yourself. Seeing the driver’s seat of a vintage bus, with its massive steering wheel and old-school levers as seen in the photo, is a powerful reminder of how hands-on driving used to be. The front of the old Leyland bus you captured, with its classic "Temporary Conductor" sign and clear route details, perfectly evokes the era of bus conductors and manually changed destination blinds.”

β€œMy son adores this place and we visit frequently, the staff are always so welcoming and the range of displays and information are brilliant! It’s always great to see the restoration projects in the background also! Grab yourself a brew and one of the children’s fun packs and away you go!”
