π Salford, North West
Grade I listed Tudor manor house dating back over 820 years with interactive dressing-up, ghost stories, hands-on crafts, and beautiful gardens. Free entry with optional donation. Cafe on site.
What a fantastic place & for free!!! There is an optional donation which is Β£3 per person but it is worth it. My daughter now 10, nieces 12 & 15 absolutely loved it. From the ghost stories to the dressing upβ¦that even I participated! π is brilliant! There is a very creepy doll in the attic a few hundred years old (didnβt want the image on my camera π€£ too superstitious! ) Lovely orchards & gardens, very well cared for. The building is beautiful, Itβs very informative & interactive, well worth a visit with or without children. Each floor has a lift if needed & toilets. The staff are very helpful, friendly & knowledgeable. We were last minute able to get on to the clay workshop as spaces opened up. Itβs an extra Β£3 per person, which wasnβt too bad but I think they could have done with more tools for cutting out, stencils etc. The little onsite cafe is cute, averagely priced, I had sourdough toast & a double shot cappuccino & that cost Β£6. The little shop has a few bits & bobs, what I did like is that you can buy apples & lavender bags and pay what you feel is fair. I love that π«Ά On site parking available, I paid Β£2.60 for 3 hours. I think you can park local & walk but double check that. Outdoor tables for your own food or bought from the cafe. Lovely day out for the summer holidays βπ½π Absolutely recommend here βοΈβοΈβοΈβοΈβοΈ
π Family Action Verdict
Best for families with children aged 8 and up who engage with history and hands-on activities. The ghost stories and attic exhibits β including a notably unsettling period doll β appeal to older children. Free entry removes the financial barrier for repeat visits, and the volunteer staff are widely praised for their depth of knowledge.

βWe came to visit last week and had a lovely time. Sue, a volunteer, was so helpful and gave us lots of help and information. So thank you to Sue! She really was brilliant. Will definitely come back for a visit again. It is free to go in, which is great, and donations really help to keep this hidden gem open.β

βExcellent location. Lovely house/museum frozen in time. Lovely staff. Good place for kids with interactive areas for them to play, dressing like back in time. Walking distance from the tram station. Excellent video a bout the Hall.... especially the one about the ghosts in the house.β
