I am impressed with Shepreth Wildlife park. Many conservation programmes for endangered species. The Animals are well fed and in great shape. The Staff are friendly, knowledgeable and passionate about what they do. A good sized indoor soft ball play area for the children in the cafe to burn some energy off. They have sponsorship and experience day packages which can be booked online. There are good views of the animals, birds, reptiles and insects. A nicely managed zoo. As a family we really enjoyed ourselves. Plenty of parking spaces. Two recommendations; improve waiting time for food in the cafe what was supposed to be 30 mins became 45 mins. And larger signage travelling to the wildlife park.

🏆 Family Action Verdict

Best for families with children aged three and up who want a genuinely educational zoo visit rather than a large-scale spectacle. The small footprint makes it easy to manage with younger children without the exhaustion of a big zoo.

ℹ️ What to Know Before You Go

💡Book capybara encounters online in advance — sessions fill up fast
Bring a packed lunch; the café is slow and reviews of the food are mixed
🎟️The bat cave tunnel is a must — don't skip it
🚗Allow at least three hours with the compact size; six is realistic for thorough visitors

We had such a lovely capybara experience for my birthday, and a huge thank you to Liz for making it so special. She was incredibly passionate and knowledgeable, and it was clear how much she cares about the animals. She took the time to answer questions and share fascinating insights, which really enhanced the experience. The wildlife park itself is wonderful, well run, welcoming, and clearly focused on animal welfare and education. You can really see the care that goes into everything they do. Highly recommended.

A smallish zoo but a minimum of 3 hours to enjoy. We spent 6 hours and enjoyed every minite. Great staff, knowledgable, caring, and clearly enjoying their job The Bat cave is a must. Food not great so bring a pack up in my opinion. We did order a pizza and a rollover so not a proper review. Other food could be better

Lovely place, it's small and compact with plenty to see. Love the red pandas. The bat tunnel is amazing. The tiger is beautiful. All the staff we encountered were friendly, and Alex was great running the Home Education workshop.

Overview

Shepreth Wildlife Park occupies a compact site built around conservation programmes for endangered species. The bat cave tunnel is a standout — visitors walk through an enclosed space with free-flying bats. Capybara encounters are bookable in advance and led by keepers with deep species knowledge. Red pandas, tigers, and a range of other animals are spread across well-maintained enclosures. A soft play area sits inside the café building for younger children.
