A fantastic hidden gem! Great, educational and fun centre for all ages. Gorgeous gift shop and great cafe. We'll be back to explore the outside areas!

šŸ† Family Action Verdict

Best for families who mix indoor learning with outdoor walks in a single outing. Toddlers and primary-age children engage well with the hands-on exhibition and trail activities; the flat, firm paths make it pushchair-friendly throughout. Dogs are welcome on the meadow walks and not inside the cafe — a takeaway hatch is available.

ā„¹ļø What to Know Before You Go

šŸ’”Parking requires a small donation — have coins ready
ā°Dogs can join meadow walks and must use the takeaway hatch rather than sitting inside the cafe
šŸŽŸļøMeadow paths are firm in dry conditions and can become soft after heavy rain
šŸš—Pick up a trail sheet from the centre to guide children through the discovery boards

ā€œIt was a lovely place to visit. There are several walks you can do from here. We did the meadow walk, which was beautiful. There are a lot of hard compact paths which are suitable for wheelchair users to explore the site. When we visited the mown grass paths through the meadow were hard and good for a wheelchair too, but this may not be the same after a period of rain. The information centre can advise further. The only disappointment was that the cafe is not dog friendly unless you have assistance dog. There is a serving hatch around the back of the centre, which links with the side of the cafe, that you can order food and drinks through if you are with your canine buddy. There are outside picnic type tables, but not much shade when I was there.ā€

ā€œCute cafe, we enjoyed a lovely light lunch freshly prepared, home made. Plenty of space to sit. We had a great wet muggy day walk. Lots of activities for kids and information boards. You could even do trails. We didn't go through the exhibition, maybe next time... Ā£2.5 donation for parking, or Ā£5 overnight.ā€

Overview

Shropshire Hills Discovery Centre combines indoor exhibitions on local history and natural landscape with 30 acres of riverside meadow. Hard-compact walking paths suit wheelchairs and prams across most of the site. Pond dipping, trail activities, and information boards are spread through the grounds. The cafe serves freshly prepared light lunches and the gift shop is well stocked. Regular family events and holiday programmes run year-round.
