1 / 2STEM Discovery Centre
📍 Stevenage, Greater London
Interactive science centre in Stevenage for Key Stage 2–3 (ages 7–14) featuring a Mars Yard with rover testing, microscopes, programming activities, slime making, and constellation sessions. Wheelchair accessible with ramp entrance.
Really love this place. Very interesting and has an activity area all science based but fun, and the staff are polite and engaging with kids. You can buy coffee at the counter at the entrance, and there are some things for sale like science pins, poppers etc. The entrance is wheelchair friendly with a long ramp to the front door. The car park is on the smaller side but can fit quite a few cars. Places like mcdonalds is just down the road, a 7 minute walk or 2 minute drive.
🏆 Family Action Verdict
Best for science-curious children aged 7–14 who want to do experiments rather than read about them. The Mars Yard rover experience is a genuine draw that standard science museums cannot match. Home-education families and school groups both use the centre regularly — book family sessions in advance to confirm space.

“Amazing place for kids to learn different scientific things, they have an area that kids can play with things and teaching space. The staff are all lovely, my son really enjoys going to sessions there and gets so much out of it. Plus they get to do certain things in the Mars Rover testing area as this is part of Airbus, makers of the exo Mars rover. They cater for school visits, home education sessions and college's.”

“Kids and I had a fantastic time, from programming our own rover to studying rocks under microscope to measuring and using coloured sand in the test tube to create layers of Mars, and ending with amazing Greek mythology stories about constellations, it was truly an amazing day far better than the Wonderlab at Natural history museum. Lots of hands on activities and educational toys. Highly recommended!”
