1 / 3The Edge
π Woodhouse, Yorkshire
Multi-sport facility at the University of Leeds offering rock climbing, swimming, and court sports. Open to external members and casual visitors, with paid parking on campus.
This is a nice place for many physical exercises and activities. I go there regularly for playing and sport activities. The cost for membership is quite high for external people. The EDGE needs to come up with a different plan. People really struggle to pay for its facilities and they don't use all of them. For me, the next plan should be to have a membership plan for each facility and keep adding on top of them. They have a gym and many other facilities for example, squash, swimming, basketball, badminton, indoor football, cricket, climbing etc. booking required for any of these ones. They also gave a nice place for socializing and if you wish to sit and chit chat. Parking is a big issue! And it is paid. Although, it is a big parking area, it is also used by Leeds University people and hence super busy all the time and hard to find a parking space. Because of the parking cost, it makes the visit even more expensive for external visitors. Other than that, it has wheelchair accessibility. 6 electric cars charging socket and all functioning. If you are lucky you might find one of them free. People are nice and friendly. They do have gym or swimming trainers as well.
π Family Action Verdict
Best for active families with older children or teenagers who want climbing, swimming, or court sports in one location. The climbing wall is the standout draw for families. The gym gets heavily congested throughout the day including evenings, which can frustrate casual visitors competing for equipment.

βI have been a member of this gym for 2 years now, and the gym has a fair amount of equipment for its size. However, I've noticed that most members of this gym lack the etiquette and courtesy of wiping down the equipment when they're done and often leave weights on or just on the floor around. Just hoping there might be more enforcement around this otherwise it's a good gym.β

βAs a university gym, itβs very convenient and committing for me to go straight after my classes, since Iβm already on the campus. However, itβs unfortunate that the amount of users has been hugely increased ,making it overcrowded and busy the whole day even during the night time. Although the gym has a decent range of equipment, most machines are occupied most of the time to the point that we have to line up for it. Itβs really impossible to get my work out done properly during each visit. I have subscribed to a 1 year membership, but recently started considering a 2nd gym, which is a bit frustrating. Since a membership is also offered as a package for on-campus accommodation, a number of users has to be monitored closely just to be fair for those who have to pay separately. I also believe that the expansion really needs to be considered in the future to accommodate the growing number of members.β

βThis gym has polite, helpful and friendly staff However, there needs to be more equipment or the membership needs to be capped as the gym gets so busy it is practically infringing on health and safety requirements! Also, every now and then, a dj will come in and play ridiculously loud music with heavy bass which seems to annoy most people. Recently, there have been several water leaks in the gym and it was closed for a couple of days. However, upon reopening, the problem hasnβt been properly fixed as there are buckets all round the gym and water puddles, some of which havenβt been marked off clearly.β

Overview
The Edge at the University of Leeds houses a climbing wall, swimming pool, and various court sports facilities across multiple levels. The venue is open to university members and external visitors. Equipment spans a fair range for the gym's size. Staff are generally polite and helpful. Parking is paid and frequently full due to campus demand β allow extra time on arrival.
