Woodlands Animal Sanctuary
π Ormskirk, North West
Animal rescue sanctuary near Ormskirk running structured Tea & Tour events with guided encounters, homemade refreshments, and group photos. Residents include ponies, goats, cats, and tortoises.
A small animal sanctuary doing some great work. We visited during an open day recently and it was a really nice day out. The staff were wonderful, friendly, welcoming and hard working. There knowledge of all the animals was impressive and the stalls and games they put on for the open day was really good and the children loved everything. We were able to look around the animals they look after and the place was immaculate and a real credit to them. The care they take for the animals is not something Iβve seen done this well before. The, I canβt say cages, more of residential rooms for each individual animal was impressive with tons of space for each one and some great protocols in place. Each animal charted and showed if and were the animal allowed touching. Gel hands and change uniforms between pens. Amazing. A very worthy organisation to visit and support if you get the chance.
π Family Action Verdict
Best for children who respond to close animal contact in a calm, educational environment β this is not a high-energy attraction. Tea & Tour events give the visit clear structure and keep children engaged throughout. Open days add games and stalls for extra variety. Families adopting a cat will find the sanctuary's process thorough and reassuring.

βI adopted my cat from Woodlands almost a year ago, and it's the best thing I ever did. Staff and volunteers at the sanctuary were incredibly helpful and friendly, and communicated regularly throughout the cat adoption process, making it as pain free as possible while still doing thorough checks to make sure my kitten and I were the right fit for each other. Since then, I have followed the work they do at the sanctuary, and have been blown away by the passion and dedication of everyone who works there. I'm incredibly grateful to the team for everything they do - especially at such a challenging time for rescues everywhere. Highly recommend. Adopt don't shop.β

βSpent a very pleasant afternoon here on one of their Tea & Tours events. Considering its a busy animal sanctuary everything was spick & span with all the animals looking happy and healthy. We were guided round by a very knowledgeable lady (sorry am terrible with names) meet and greet with some of the animals, great to see how much space they have, the horses and donkey were our favourite. After a very extensive tour we enjoyed some nice, what looked like home made cakes and a brew. Was a lovely way to spend the afternoon and you know your money is going to an excellent cause. Thanks again to the whole team.β
