1 / 3Yarrow Valley Country Park
đ Chorley, North West
400-acre country park with a scenic reservoir lake, multi-drop waterfall, children's adventure playground, and a dog-friendly cafe. Pram access on main paths; some trails turn muddy in wet weather.
Yarrow Valley is beautiful with a stunning waterfall. It can get quite muddy, so appropriate footwear is recommended. We took a pram, but unfortunately, not all areas are accessible. However, they have a lovely cafe with a disabled toilet/changing area and a nice children's play area. Tickets for parking aren't straightforward, but we ended up going online and were only charged 10p.
đ Family Action Verdict
Best for families with toddlers through school-age kids who want an outdoor full-morning without spending a penny on entry. The playground keeps younger children occupied, the lake path suits prams on dry days, and the waterfall is a reliable photo stop. Muddy boots are almost guaranteed in autumn and winter, so pack accordingly.

âFound this little gem quite by accident but had a lovely time walking around the lake and trying out other paths to see where they led. Loads of benches dotted around and plenty of picnic tables. Lovely ice cream in the on site shop, who also do coffee, cakes etc.â

âVisited here yesterday for the first time and it was such a lovely afternoon! Kids both loved it and we have decided to visit again tomorrow! Lovely cafe by the car park, lovely place to walk and get some fresh air and the kids park was great too!â

âGreat walks but can be very muddy in places so sturdy footwear is recommended. Lots of opportunities to view different species of birdsâ

Overview
Yarrow Valley Country Park sits around Anglezarke and Rivington reservoirs with marked walking routes, a waterfall viewpoint, and a well-equipped playground for younger children. The onsite cafe stocks hot food, cakes, and ice cream. Parking requires a ticket from the machine even for the free three-hour window. Birdwatchers regularly spot waders and wildfowl along the water's edge. Bring wellies for off-path sections.
