Absolutely fabulous experience, and great value for money. Went with my daughter and we both loved the ambience, the comfort of the reclining sofas, and the opportunity to receive table service at our seats. The staff are very welcoming and friendly. The whole place feels clean, fresh and positively stands out from the cinemas run by the large franchises such as Odeon and Vue Cinemas. It’s a family run business in its third generation. They deserve praise for not just competing with the large chain run cinemas but beating them for quality and service. No hesitation at all to give the place 5 stars for a 5 star experience.

πŸ† Family Action Verdict

Best for families with older children or teens who will appreciate the reclining sofa format and table service. The intimate scale and art deco surroundings make it a genuine treat for a special occasion. Seats near exits like G2 and G3 in the Gold screen work well for families who need easy access.

ℹ️ What to Know Before You Go

πŸ’‘Book Premier or Gold seating to access the reclining sofa and table service experience

🎟️Seats G2 and G3 in the Gold screen offer end-of-row access with a strong sightline

β€œBeautiful cinema with the comfiest seats and amazing staff. A proper luxury night for my birthday. We got seats G2 and G3 in the gold one, right next to the exit and great view of the screen for anyone who likes sitting on the end like myself lol. The first class tickets came with table service at your seat in the cinema for 40 minutes before the film began and they played some musicals on the screen like grease and mama Mia. They have snacks like crisps and dip and some hot food like hot dogs and plenty of drinks. Definitely recommend best cinema in Edinburgh!!!”

β€œAn art deco cinema which opened in 1937. The cinema had multiple screens which have sumptuous seating, some of which recline. Tables are provided at the sides of seats for drinks and snacks. For evening shows you can order drinks from the bar to complement your experience. The cinema is lovingly cared for by a small team, and there are several comfortable lounges where you can wait for your film to start, and have a drink at the same time.”

β€œBooked in Premier seating and was not disappointed. Lovely reclining leather 2 seater sofas with your own little table each, a separation screen between neighbouring seats and waiter service. Everyone from the lady at the box office to the waiters and ushers were very polite and efficient but friendly. Thoroughly recommend.”

Overview

The Dominion has operated since 1937 and retains its art deco character across multiple screens. Premier seating pairs reclining leather two-seater sofas with individual side tables and privacy screens between rows. Waiters take orders at your seat for evening showings. The cafe bar is open before and during screenings. A genuine alternative to multiplex chains for families wanting a more relaxed, upmarket experience.
