Absolutely beautiful place, staff are kind and welcoming. Son loved the train ride. And loved the train expo. Seeing the models, artifacts and seeing the history that comes with it. The environmet is relaxed and pleasant with wildlife and beautiful scenery. We will be coming back again.

πŸ† Family Action Verdict

Best for families with children aged 4-12 who enjoy trains, outdoor exploration, and hands-on heritage activities. The combination of museum, crafts, nature trails, and seasonal events fills a full day. Volunteer passion is a genuine highlight β€” children get real engagement rather than scripted tours. Very accessible on a tight budget.

β€œAmazing place, would describe it as a hidden gem. If you are looking for a great day out, and something on a budget definitely the place to go. Has amazing areas for the children to play, walks to take with added information about the area on the way. The museum is fantastic, informative and interactive which is great for children (I had a 4 and 10 year old, both entertained). You can choose to spend money, (not a lot) but there are free or donation activities. Staff were polite and friendly with young people helping out, who were a delight to interact with and I was impressed with their knowledge. Genuinely left everyone having a great time, without the worry or disappointment that you had to break the bank to enjoy it.”

β€œWonderful place. The railway museum is full of great railway memorabilia, has a working Signal box and a lovely model and exhibition of the Channel Tunnel. The Barn has lots of wonderful crafts, cafΓ© and a Printer which is very interesting to see how printing used to be done. Also, the volunteers are very friendly and passionate, they really have done a great job here. It’s certainly well worth a visit.”

Overview

The Elham Valley Line Trust runs across two areas: a railway museum housing historical artefacts, a working signal box, model displays, and a Channel Tunnel exhibition; and George's Barn with countryside crafts, a printing press demonstration, and a cafe. Families can ride miniature trains, go pond dipping, walk nature trails with interpretation boards, and attend seasonal events like Christmas fairs. Volunteers are knowledgeable and actively engage with visitors.
