1 / 3Elmbridge Xcel Leisure Complex
π Walton-on-Thames, Greater London
Modern multi-activity leisure complex in Walton-on-Thames with two swimming pools, a 12.5m climbing wall, gym, luxury health suite with sauna, steam, citrus steam and salt rooms, and Costa Coffee on site.
In recent years I have been subjected to discrimination (by harassment and less favourable treatment) at 2 independently owned Surrey Gyms. The last making false allocations about myself too. As a chronically ill person that impacted on my wellbeing and connection with fitness. From the moment I walked in to Xcel I was welcome. I was treated as an equal and not an annoyance or future problem. I was treated as a Customer and offered everything a customer was entitled to. I actually found it odd and awkward as it was so unfamiliar in fitness. I was given a 5 day trial to make sure I was totally comfortable with the staff, customers, members, services and facilities. I joined as a disabled member in January and a month later I'm actually starting to relax. Every time I see rubbish or a loo roll left I expect to get the blame for abuse of facilities, obviously I'm not and it's not going to happen but I'm so used to the harassment elsewhere it's taken time to settle in. If you're disabled this place can definitely cater for you and staff are fantastic, definitely give them a try. It's busy and times but a welcoming inclusive environment for the entire Community not just the influencer or elite strength athletes. Other gyms have promised and lied to get my membership fees and then chucked me out as membership numbers climb. The false promises never achieved. Yet The Xcel have a easier approach, here is a trial membership, see what you think.
π Family Action Verdict
Strong all-round venue for active families who want more than a standard pool. The climbing wall courses and varied pool programming give older children and teenagers genuine reasons to return independently.

βBeautiful facility. Great place to exercise and take children. Huge thanks to the amazing and wonderful Leo, who booked me a taxi after I had lost my phone!β

βFacilities are great. Gym, classes, staff, PT instructors, swimming pool, health suite, Sauna, steam, citrus steam and salt room all great. Well worth the money. I went to the Loughton leisure centre recently (same company), and it was woeful in comparisonβ¦. Howeverβ¦. Small simple things let it down like not having a simple shelf in the showers in the health suite, so you have to put shower gel on the floor! π€― Pretty mind blowing, such a cheap easy fix but despite numerous people feeding it back in customer surveys but it still hasnβt been done. Iβll be staying but there are small minor things that could be improved.β
