1 / 2Greenslate Community Farm
📍 Wigan, North West
Community farm on 25 acres of Billinge Hill farmland and woodland, home to goats, rams, donkeys, and chickens. Free entry with donations welcome. Straw Bale Café on-site. Pram-friendly throughout with hand-wash stations across the site.
It is a great place for all. The site has well looked after animals such as goats, rams, donkeys and chickens. The staff are amazing working to bring the Community together. There is a fabulous cafe on the site & a second hand shop. All monies & donations go towards the Greenslate Community Farm. I was really impressed with how well it is run. My visit was in cold and wet conditions. Cannot wait to return in the warmer months. The Farm grow their own produce and use to make delicious meals in the cafe.
🏆 Family Action Verdict
Best for families with toddlers and young children who want direct animal contact in an unhurried, community-run setting. Free entry removes the usual cost pressure of farm visits. Two to three hours covers the full site comfortably. The café and second-hand shop give adults something to linger over as children explore.

“We visited the farm today and had a lovely time. Our breakfast barms were delicious as well as our fresh orange and apple juice - all of which was so reasonable too. All the staff were very friendly and it was great fun saying hello to the animals on the farm! We have no doubt that we will be returning again soon.”
