A winter holiday break, but also a visitβa visit to history and military, architecture, art, and walks. That is, homework, and of course, a photo with a Russian tank must be included! Must hawe !!! π«‘π€ͺ Imperial War Museum North (IWM North), located at Salford Quays in Greater Manchester, England. Construction and Architecture The building design is an iconic, aluminum-covered structure that was designed by world-renowned architect Daniel Libeskind. The project represents a globe shattered by conflicts. It consists of three interconnected "shards" that symbolize earth, air, and water. To reflect the nature of war, the building has sharp angles, sloping floors, and tilted walls, creating a deliberately confusing multisensory experience for visitors. The museum explores how our world was shaped by war and conflict, focusing in particular on Britain and the Commonwealth from the First World War to the present day. Highlights in the collection include the Harrier Jump Jet, a car destroyed by bombing in Iraq, and 13-pound artillery. The museum offers a 360-degree multimedia film experience known as the "Big Picture Show," which uses audiovisual displays to tell the story of people affected by war
π Family Action Verdict
Best for families with school-age children aged 5 and above, particularly those studying 20th-century history. The spy trail and hands-on elements engage children who might find conventional museums passive. The free entry means there is no cost barrier to a return visit. Younger toddlers are less well catered for given the content themes.

βThe IWM North is a fantastic museum, with excellent exhibits that really help children understand the period from World War I onwards. The interactive trail in the spy section is especially engaging and well designed. Itβs impressive that all of this is available for free. I didnβt fully understand how the 360-degree video connected to the rest of the exhibition. There was nothing wrong with the content itselfβI'm a second-generation migrant but I also have family members who fought in WWI and were child evacuees during WWIIβso I found the themes meaningful, but disconnected. Thereβs also a great shop with a wide selection of interesting items to buy, and the facilities, including the toilets, were clean and pleasant. Overall, a really worthwhile visit.β

βIncredible museum where you can truly feel the history. A powerful place that honours the brave people who fought in the war, with thoughtful and moving exhibitions throughout. The displays are well presented, and thereβs so much to learn and reflect on. Thereβs even a piece of the Twin Towers on display, which adds an emotional and global perspective to the experience. Highly recommend a visit ,beautiful, educational, and deeply meaningfulyβ
