I loved our visit to the Worth Valley Railway! I'm such a sucker for a steam train! We went on Boxing Day and hadn't booked in advance, so there was a bit of a wait to buy tickets at the station. We parked at Oxenhope which has a big car park, plus an overflow. Both of which are free. We bought day rover tickets and took the steam train from Oxenhope to Keighley, grabbed a hot chocolate from the platform and stayed on board - waiting for 45 minutes for the train to head back to Oxenhope. We got off at Haworth and spent some time there before getting back on the steam train a few hours later to Oxenhope. The railway is run completely by volunteers and they do an amazing job! All the trains and stations are immaculate. Some things to know: * Book in advance if you can. It'll save time at the station. * Check the timetable online. As we went on Boxing Day it was a reduced service with just one steam and one diesel engine running. * There aren't toilets onboard but are at most of the stations along the route. * Oxenhope to Keighley takes about 30-minutes in total. * There is a bar car on the steam train and most people were having a few. I've never seen glass pint glasses on a trian before! You can get beer, spirits and snacks. * Dogs are welcome onboard as long as they're well behaved and kept off of the seats.

🏆 Family Action Verdict

Best for train-loving families who want a genuine volunteer-run heritage experience with excellent value Day Rover passes. Themed events like the Santa Express are particularly well-executed for young children. Book online in advance during holidays and themed event dates to avoid queues at the station.

“What a lovely, well kept and quant place, it's obviously cared for a lot by those that work and volunteer here. We went for a themed evening which was well organised, great performances and the train ride and entertainment was lovely. Friendly and efficient service/staff and parking was well organised (booked in advance). Would definitely recommend checking out all the themed days they do (book well in advance), as they are so well thought through and worty the money, all the family, especially the kids enjoyed the whole experience. It's a shame that the journey isn't a little longer but for an evening ride it was fine (especially as the weather wasn't very kind), I will definitely go back again in the summer for a longer journey and see the sights Thank you for a great experience and hope that the railway continues to be supported.”

“I recently revisited the keighley & worth valley railway on the 8th of November 2025, especially to the outstanding oxenhope station of whom the forever (to station) terminus of west yorkshire's branch line heritage railway attraction, Oxenhope station is as outstanding as ever, Also immaculate, Full of charming nostalgia, uniquely appealing in it's simplicity, One of the most successfully restored railway stations in the united kingdom's forever exisiting preservation movement. Tip-TOP... 60 out of 60.”
