Large main pool plus a smaller secondary pool in west Leeds. Swimming lessons, toddler-friendly sessions, birthday party packages, and pram access. Active Leeds membership unlocks significantly better value.

As always a wonderful aqua class with Louise this morning (aided by Santa’s little helper) - the staff here are marvellous and with an Active Leeds membership this is a incredible value and a great local asset

πŸ† Family Action Verdict

Best for families with Active Leeds memberships who want a spacious main pool for swimming lessons or regular sessions. The pool itself is functional and the staff and class instructors deliver well. The changing rooms are a real drawback for families with young children who spend time there β€” hygiene standards are well below what parents expect.

ℹ️ What to Know Before You Go

πŸ’‘Active Leeds membership reduces cost substantially compared to day passes β€” worth the application if you plan to visit regularly
⏰Bring your own hairdryer β€” the facility unit has been broken for over a year with no repair
🎟️Wear flip-flops in the changing rooms; floor cleanliness is a consistent complaint across multiple years of reviews
πŸš—Louise's aqua classes are specifically praised β€” check her timetable when booking fitness sessions

β€œI recently visited the local swimming leisure centre and had an overall enjoyable experience. The staff were incredibly friendly and accommodating, making the visit pleasant from the start. The centre offers a variety of activities suitable for all ages, ensuring that everyone can find something fun to do. The large pool was particularly impressiveβ€”spacious and well-maintained, providing ample room for swimming and relaxing. However, I did find the small pool to be a bit disappointing. It was colder than expected and not as clean as it could be, which detracted slightly from the overall experience. Despite this minor setback, the centre's positive aspects far outweighed the negatives. I would recommend it to anyone looking for a fun and friendly place to swim.”

β€œThe pool was decent. But the changing rooms were absolutely disgusting. The changing rooms had biscuit crumbs all over the floor and the showers had mold all over the shower head. There was also hairballs all over the changing are , I’m sure they never clean the rooms. It smelled like urine.”

β€œI’ve been attending this leisure centre for over a year now, and I’m really disappointed that the same issues still haven’t been fixed β€” especially this out-of-order hairdryer. It’s been broken for months (if not longer), and even now that it’s winter, nothing has been done about it. It’s frustrating for regular swimmers and students who rely on basic facilities like this after sessions, especially when it’s cold. It gives the impression that the centre is more interested in making as much money as possible while spending the least they can on maintenance and customer care. After a year of the same problem, it’s clear that customer comfort and health aren’t being prioritised. Really disappointing from a place run by the council that should be looking after the community.”

Overview

Kirkstall Leisure Centre runs a large main pool suitable for lane swimming and general family sessions, plus a smaller secondary pool that runs colder. Toddler-friendly sessions and birthday parties are available. Changing rooms are a persistent problem β€” mould on shower heads, crumb-covered floors, urine odour, and a broken hairdryer that has been out of service for over a year across multiple reviewer reports. Pool instructors and aqua class teachers are praised by name.
