1 / 3Mugdock Country Park
π Milngavie, Central Scotland
Free country park above Milngavie with two castle ruins, family walking trails, and outstanding baby facilities including large changing rooms and high chairs in the cafe. Multiple car parks available.
Stunning historic castle which was super interesting and fun to explore. They offer a stand with historic information about the castle which was educational. The walks around the park are brilliant for families and dogs and the scenery is fascinating and tranquil.
π Family Action Verdict
Best for families with babies through to older children who want castle exploration combined with easy countryside walking. Babies and toddlers are well catered for at the visitor centre. Older children enjoy the accessible castle interior. The unrestored castle is fenced for conservation, so manage expectations on that one.

βA fantastic place to visit! The ruins are beautiful β they could easily be used as movie sets. One of them is accessible, while another is deliberately left unrestored to provide a habitat for wildlife like bats, which is just great! Thereβs no entrance fee, and parking is available too. A wonderful spot for a walk and some history β highly recommended!β

βFantastic day out on a cloudy/rainy November day! Excellent facilities for our baby (large and clean changing room, and plenty of high-chairs in one of the cafes). We spent a couple of hours walking to explore the two Castles. Will definitely be back!β

βTo be honest we just went out for a drive heading into the Campsies and saw the sign for here so decided to stop and also walk the dogs. We parked in the east car park which was a little bit away from the visitor centre but still ideal for the dogs to stretch their legs. The visitor centre was quite busy even though it was just midweek on a Wednesday at end of July. I had hoped to get some wildlife photos here but there wasnβt much going on although it was quite peaceful away from the centre.β

Overview
Mugdock Country Park holds two medieval castle ruins β one fully accessible for exploration, one deliberately left unrestored as a bat habitat. Walking trails wind through woodland and open moorland with Campsie Fell views. The visitor centre cafe has high chairs and spacious baby-change facilities. Free entry and free parking make it accessible for any family.
