1 / 3The Childrens Wood and North Kelvin Meadow
đ Glasgow, Central Scotland
Community-run wild space in Glasgow's west end with mud kitchens, tree houses, fire pits, and den-building areas. Structured outdoor playgroups run on Wednesdays and Fridays during term time. Free entry. Dog-friendly throughout.
My favourite place to hang out during Lockdown; great place to take your dog or your toddler, community rather than municipal feel, Fire pits for the responsible outdoor BBQ host; Tree houses, an outdoor kindergarten, the opportunity to grow things in containers without the responsibility of an allotment;community composting and friendly people. Great ecotherapy for the soul!
đ Family Action Verdict
Best for toddlers and young children who thrive in unstructured, sensory-rich outdoor environments. The mud kitchen and den-building areas are the main draw â children typically self-direct without needing organised input. Dress for mud and wet conditions regardless of the forecast. The community feel is genuine and distinct from municipal parks.

âWent there with some family including 3 children. Very stimuating for children with lots of very basic facilities. Excellent resouce in an otherwise residential area, well done to those who help stop the developers buiding more flats and allowed this wood to be used for the community.â

âLovely little community park. Good for dogs. Lost of place for kids to run about and play.â

âIt was cold, it was wet, it was muddy but the kids absolutely loved it - a bit of green space with the ability to play with a mud kitchen and build a den within the west end of Glasgow. It was perfect for a Lockdown outing and a excellent place for the community to share. During more normal times there are various groups that meet and hold outdoor learning sessions here.â

Overview
The Children's Wood occupies a genuine urban wild space â not manicured parkland. Mud kitchens, rope swings, and tree houses sit within dense vegetation. Community volunteers maintain the site and run term-time sessions for outdoor learning groups on Wednesdays and Fridays. Open play sessions run on Tuesdays. A traditional playground with swings and slides sits a short walk away for families wanting structured equipment.
