1 / 3Oxford Ice Rink
π Oxford, Greater London
Public ice rink in Oxford with skating sessions, Skate UK lessons from age 3, disco skating, SEN sessions, and a cafe. Facility is functional and dated. Skate hire, parking, and lockers each carry separate charges.
The place is ok but needs a few improvements. There's the price shown online but on top of this parking is Β£5.60, skate hire is Β£2.50 each, locker hire is Β£2.50. It took a long time to enter as there was only one of the four booths manned during their busiest session of the week. They only have very dated figures skates with toe spikes available, no hockey skates. The skates I was given were wet inside. It's still worth a visit but if Swindon ice rink is nearer, it's much cheaper, more modern and a much nicer experience.
π Family Action Verdict
Works for families introducing children to ice skating, particularly through the structured Skate UK lesson programme from age 3. SEN sessions are a genuine asset for families who need a calmer environment. Manage expectations around the facility condition and budget for the additional hire costs.

βPretty good experience. Came for the skate disco as complete beginners. Was a little crowded and the music choices were a bit mid (a lot of tiktok songs) but overall a good time. Paid to rent skates.β

βThe Oxford Ice Rink is a fun place for skating, but it desperately needs a revamp. The facilities are outdated, and the buildingβs exterior, especially with the newly built Westgate nearby, is an eyesore. The grey, mould-like appearance of the concrete makes it feel neglected, which is disappointing in a city that attracts so many tourists. Inside, the rink is functional, but it hasn't changed much over the years. Iβd gladly pay a bit more for tickets if it meant the council invested in giving the venue the uplift it deserves.β

Overview
Oxford Ice Rink runs public sessions, disco skating, and structured British Ice Skating Association Skate UK lessons starting from age 3. SEN sessions offer reduced noise and dimmed lighting. The venue hosts the Oxford City Stars ice hockey team and birthday parties. Only figure skates with toe picks are available β no hockey skates. The building is dated and a multi-booth entry system runs understaffed on busy sessions.
