As a regular skater at this rink, I would highly recommend to others. I attend public sessions, patch ice, lessons and sometime hire the entire rink out for family/friend events. Rink hire is such a reasonable price when split between a group and the experience is really great - especially if you have nervous skaters joining. The staff are always lovely and make sure we have access to the speakers to play our own music during the hire and are just smiley and helpful in general. As someone who has spent most of my life skating at Guildford spectrum, I much prefer ozone now!

🏆 Family Action Verdict

Ozone suits families with children under 10 who are learning to skate and want a calmer, less crowded environment. Rink hire is a strong option for groups willing to split the cost. Taller learners or adults may find the skating aids too low to be useful.

ℹ️ What to Know Before You Go

💡Arrive well before your session — only around 20 parking spaces serve the whole rink
The cafe is upstairs to the right after reception, not left toward the rink entrance
🎟️Skating aids are low-set and work best for younger or smaller children
🚗Rink hire is cost-effective when split across a group for private skating events

We (Myself and my two sons - 8 & 12 years old) came for the public skate on Tuesday night (3rd of Feb) I'm getting back into skating after a 30 year hiatus, and hoping to get back to a level to play hockey again, and my two sons are learning to skate. We went to Guildford Spectrum a couple of days beforehand as it was my old stomping ground as a kid, and the boys loved it. We wanted to try Ozone as it's so much closer to where we live now (Reading) and it's cheaper than Guildford (and much cheaper than Planet Ice Basingstoke!) I knew the rink was small before we came, but it was actually a bit smaller than I'd imagined it'd be, but it's not a bad thing necessarily - smaller rink means smaller number of skaters, so you aren't fighting off the congestion of a large rink like Guildford. We had a great time overall - my wife watched from the Café upstairs (Take a right after the reception - we didn't know and my wife followed us to the left and was sort of stuck rink-side until she could get back through the group of skaters and find her way upstairs) and I was teaching my sons to skate in a nice peaceful environment. The only negative we can think of really is the skating aids. The boys are still very wobbly on their skates and so are relying on skating aids at the moment - my youngest had no problem with them. They were the perfect height for him and he got on really well with them. However, my 12 year old really struggled with them as they are SO low down. We tried to flip one on it's end to see if we could make it usable for him, but it's very flimsy that way round - it doesn't promote a good skating stance for a learner, and he was just hunched over with his hands around thigh height. I can imagine any adults wanting to use a skating aid would REALLY struggle. A choice of skating aids, or some larger skating aids would have been perfect, and would have made the difference between myself and my youngest want to return, and my oldest NOT wanting to come back to Ozone. I'm hoping it's only a temporary blip, as I'm hoping to get them free of using the skating aids as soon as possible anyway... I'd definitely come back, the location, the price and the rink were great in my opinion. So yeah - my only problem is to have better/taller skating aids available to help encourage those taller learners!

Ozone Ice Rink is definitely a nice place to practise skills and skating! Although the rink is smaller sized than other places like Guildford Spectrum, I believe this is comfortable and also means the amount of people decrease, which means that the ice won't be so grotty. Additionally, as someone who is an existing customer now, I find that Ozone staff are helpful and very nice to talk to, which is perfect. The rentals aren't too bad compared to other places, they look presentable. Furthermore, the teachers here are very patient and like to demonstrate skills quickly but also break it down as well. I would recommend this ice rink for those who do need a quieter rink or want to work on skills. However, I will say a certain drawback of Ozone can be the actual skating aids in public sessions. As someone who does figure skate, this isn't much of a concern on my end, but I believe the mini goalie posts are very dangerous to support children with because I have seen some fall head first into them and also the goalie posts aren't as stable compared to something like a skating penguin persay. If Ozone could invest in slightly better skating aids in public sessions, then I would say that's not really a major problem. Thanks for reading my lengthy review, I do this to remain unbiased + honest :)

The ice rink itself is great, but parking is an absolute nightmare. The rink itself is in a row of other office buildings and only has about 10 spaces out front and apparently a overflow at the back, which looks to have a max of another 10 spaces. With 2 sessions overlapping it's nowhere near enough, and god help you if you accidentally park in a spot belonging to another business, they will just block you in. Such a shame because it's local and really good once you're inside, but I'll be making the trip to Guildford from now on
