We had such a fantastic time at Playtropolis! The play areas are clean, safe, and really well laid out, with plenty to keep children of all ages entertained. The staff are friendly, welcoming, and always happy to help, which makes such a difference. The cafΓ© is great too – good variety of food and drinks, all reasonably priced and perfect for a quick bite while the kids burn off energy. The whole place has a lovely, relaxed atmosphere, and you can tell it’s well cared for. Highly recommend for a fun day out or a birthday party – we’ll definitely be coming back! 😌

πŸ† Family Action Verdict

Strongest for families with children aged roughly 3 to 8 who engage deeply with imaginative role-play rather than traditional soft play climbing frames. The themed rooms are genuinely detailed and the staff are consistently praised for their enthusiasm.

ℹ️ What to Know Before You Go

πŸ’‘SEN holiday sessions run during school breaks for a quieter, lower-stimulation experience
⏰Arrive early to secure seating β€” the main area has sparse tables during busy periods
🎟️Book birthday parties in advance to access the exclusive-hire party room
πŸš—Dress in warm layers as heating in the main seating area can be inconsistent

β€œMy husband and I visited Play tropolis for the first time with our two children today for the train and Santa event. We had a wonderful time. My children absolutely loved it! Plenty to do in each section and Santa was great and spent time with each child. They were serving him hot chocolate in the cafe and cutting his beard in the hairdressers. Lovely memories to cherish. Fantastic! I booked last minute and so glad I did. Will be returning again soon. Thank you”

β€œNot worth the price TL;DR - I wouldn’t rush to come back or believe the pictures. Food was slow ( it was toast ) and the whole experience for the price was β€œmeh”. Β£14 for two adults one child is daylight robbery for what’s offered. The website makes the venue look so impressive, but even on arrival driving through what may as well have been a WW2 battlefield with all the potholes, it didn’t give a good first impression. The entrance I can see how other reviewers have mentioned resembles a night club and it’s kinda wait and see who comes out to greet you. and then once you’re through, that’s when the fun begins! ( not ) Tables to sit, not anywhere near enough and you’re left stood around if you’re not the first in the door. Mentioned this to staff who said they would locate chairs and then never did. We attempted to order food ( toast and toastie ) and just as we were about to ask for a refund 40 mins later it turned up with no apology, just a comment of β€œwe are busy”…. ITS TOAST! The individual rooms are heated, almost too hot, but then the rest of the areas are stone cold. There are heaters on the walls but I don’t think they work or at least were not turned on. Disappointing. The play rooms, well, they’re big and spacious, but in terms of toys” some rooms were practically empty and what wasn’t empty was either not clean or broken. The supermarket in particular had plenty of food baskets on the shelves, but it was so bare that you would think we were back in Covid fighting for toilet roll πŸ˜‚ The space centre in the corner, one bubble light in a dark room, wow, my mind was absolutely blown ( at how bad it was ). For the price point being charged for entry there are other venues close by who I would say offer a lot more at quite literally half the price. I am not a stingy man, but even I thought I’d had my pants pulled down by the entry fee for what you don’t get.”

Overview

Play-tropolis runs nine themed role-play areas where children explore different job roles across a supermarket, hospital, hair salon, fire station, theatre, and space centre. Birthday parties use exclusive-hire party rooms. SEN sessions run during school holidays for a quieter experience. Special events including Santa visits are scheduled seasonally. Seating in the main area is sparse during peak periods, and heating inconsistency has been raised by multiple visitors.
