1 / 2Saughton Park
📍 Scotland
Well-maintained free park in west Edinburgh featuring age-separated play areas from baby swings to teen equipment, a walled Rose Garden, indoor Winter Garden and conservatory, outdoor gym, and sports pitches. Pram-friendly throughout.
I love Saughton Park. It's such a lovely space to spend sometime. I usually go there for lunch with my partner anytime we're up that way. We'll get a takeaway and sit at one of the many picnic benches or find a nice spot on the grass if the weather's nice. The park itself is so clean and well kept. The flowers are absolutely stunning, especially in spring and summer, when all the colours are so bright. I love the mix of plants and wild flowers, there is also a hot house with cacti and other plants from hot places. There is a cafe and picnic benches. Plenty of benches throughout the park. Toilets and disabled toilets. Wheelchair accessible. Children's play park and skatepark for all levels of skating and skateboarding. Water fountains are available for drinking water. There are a few pieces of gym equipment, such as exercise bike, cross trainer. Electric charging ports Carparking available but not a huge carpark
🏆 Family Action Verdict
Suits families with children at any stage — crawling babies through teenagers — due to the deliberate age separation of play zones. Spring and summer visits coincide with peak Rose Garden colour. The heated conservatory makes it viable in wet Scottish weather. Free entry and free parking (car park is small, arrive early in peak periods).

“Absolutely lovely park, incredibly clean and well kept. There are free public toilets, a nice coffee shop and plenty of small walks. The play area is really good, even our 10 month old crawling son could enjoy it - there’s baby swings, a sandpit, an area for toddlers, slightly older kids then heading more towards teens. It really is an amazing free space, Scotland does such a good job of parks compared to England.”

“Saughton park is always a treat. Well kept, always free and has indoor greenhouses in case of bad weather. The gardens are fantastic with lots of colour in spring and summer. The band stand is a stand out feature and has live music periodically. A genuine asset to the west side of Edinburgh. The cafe can be busy, but rightly. It has good food and is perfect for a cuppa.”
