π Henleaze, South West
Independent Henleaze cinema screening a broad mix of family releases, arthouse picks, and mainstream films. Features comfortable seating, an onsite cafe with snacks, and free parking nearby.
Weβve both loved cinema going back to our very earliest days back in London. But as mortgages careers business ( running my own Consultancy ) plus Family ( 2 grandkids now ) pre occupy you donβt go often. Weβ d both heard great things about Hamnet & had delayed a screening until today ( Screen 3 always seems superior ). Well what a choice and what an experience. We β d pre booked so used the e ticket display & that saves all that queuing! The seats were perfect and very very comfortable. Also weβd booked two at very back as thereβs lots of leg room ( both are tall ). Hamnet was superb and the acting of the two main protagonists transcendent ( ethereal ). Of course being Irish it was never in doubt. Writer and two leads are from the auld country. The β storylining β was superb partly the nature and connection to ancient beliefs juxtaposed with their lives and ultimately benefits of materialism through commercial success. Her earthy fecundity and deep love of children. It all plays into the harrowing death of Hamnet and Agnes blaming Shakespeare for his remoteness and alleged tardiness. Their grief is leaden & nothing mitigates it but his inspiration to Hamlet & in turn her realisation of the depth of their collective desolation is probably the most emotional moment you β ll witness on celluloid.
π Family Action Verdict
Best for families who want a relaxed local cinema experience without travelling to a multiplex. Older children and teens will appreciate the varied programming. Toddler screenings run during school-holiday periods β check the website for baby-friendly sessions. Parking is straightforward on Sundays when local streets are quieter.

βIt was strange going to the cinema on a Sunday but it was easier to park locally and we enjoyed the experience. Still daylight when we came out! Machine to register our tickets which I had bought online did not work but kind assistant sorted it for us.β

βThe Orpheus is a wonderful local neighbourhood independent cinema showing a varied programme for its size. Comfortable seats and a wide range of snacks. Highly recommend.β

βReally pleased to have Scott Cinemas Henleaze so close β itβs about five minutes from my door and I go fairly regularly. Itβs great having a local cinema that shows a good mix of films rather than just the big blockbusters. Iβve seen a few things here recently and itβs a real asset to the area. Inside, itβs a friendly, easy place to visit and I like the range of screenings they put on. The only things that let it down slightly are practical rather than major issues. The seats arenβt the most comfortable compared with some newer cinemas, and the ticketing system at the entrance can feel a bit clunky. You often end up queuing to use the machine to print a ticket even when you already have one on your phone, and the machines themselves are quite slow. There are signs suggesting you can just show your phone if thereβs a queue, but itβs not always clear, and there isnβt always someone checking tickets when you go into the screen, so the process can feel a bit confusing. None of that is a deal-breaker though. Itβs still a really handy, well-run local cinema with a good film selection, and Iβm glad itβs there. Just a few tweaks to seating comfort and the ticketing setup would make the experience even better.β
