1 / 2Staines Society of Model Engineers Miniature Railway
π Staines, Greater London
Volunteer-run 1,000-foot miniature railway in Staines Park with steam and electric locomotives. Runs on Easter Sunday and the fourth Sunday of each month from April to October. Free park access year-round; rides are ticketed on running days.
I am a club member and drive trains on public running days. Pleased to see all the great reviews. We aim to provide an interesting, safe and fun experience for adults and children alike (and for ourselves too!). Please note that while the park is open 24 hours, our public trains normally run on Easter Sunday, and then on the 4th Sunday each month until October, from 1 to 5 p.m. (4 p.m. in October). Please see our website for further information.
π Family Action Verdict
Best for families with toddlers and primary-age children who love trains and enjoy a special monthly outing rather than a regular weekly activity. Young children frequently want multiple rides in a single visit.

βI love coming here for my runs, this garden is peaceful and perfect for outdoor workouts, especially since thereβs no proper gym nearby. The Staines Society of Model Engineers Miniature Railway adds a unique charm to the place. A hidden gem!β

βThe trains only operate on certain days and young children love them. They pull ride on carriages along a small loop and a ride is reasonably priced. I think the dates are posted online and it's well worth a visit.β

Overview
The Staines Society of Model Engineers operates a 1,000-foot track through Staines Park carrying passengers in purpose-built carriages pulled by steam and electric locomotives. The layout includes steaming bays, a turntable, and raised hardwood sleeper track accommodating multiple gauges. Club members drive the trains and are engaged and informative with visitors. The surrounding park is open year-round for walking even when trains are not running.
