Iโ€™m genuinely shocked at how poorly Stechford Leisure Centre manages its swimming programme. The attitude from the staff feels dismissive, unhelpful, and completely unprofessional. They never send updates, never communicate changes, and seem to alter swimming session timings whenever they feel like it, without any consideration for parentsโ€™ schedules. Whatโ€™s even worse is that theyโ€™ve reduced the Advanced Stage session from 1 hour to 45 minutes but continue charging the exact same monthly direct debit amount. How is that acceptable? Youโ€™re paying more for less, and they donโ€™t even bother to justify it. Progress tracking is another disaster. Students can be stuck in the same stage for 9 to 12 months with no updates, no feedback, and no indication of what they need to improve. Overall, the lack of communication, the unprofessional behaviour, and the complete disregard for customersโ€™ time and money make this centre incredibly frustrating to deal with. Stechford Leisure Centre seriously needs to rethink how it treats its members.

๐Ÿ† Family Action Verdict

Best for families with older children or adults seeking the air-conditioned gym or sports hall, who are prepared to manage communication directly in person rather than by phone. Families enrolling children in swimming lessons should expect cancellations and inconsistent progress tracking based on recent accounts.

โ„น๏ธ What to Know Before You Go

๐Ÿ’กContact the centre in person rather than by phone โ€” lines are frequently unanswered
โฐSwimming lessons have been subject to last-minute cancellations by voicemail โ€” confirm schedules directly with instructors
๐ŸŽŸ๏ธThe main pool area has been recently refurbished โ€” ask about current lane availability
๐Ÿš—Pool hoists and step-free access are available for swimmers with accessibility needs

โ€œDisappointing Decline in Standards Unfortunately, this gym has significantly deteriorated in terms of staffing, cleanliness, and overall safety. There is rarely any staff presence on the gym floor, which is particularly concerning in the event of emergencies, especially as some members have mobility issues. During school holidays, un-supervised younger users often misuse equipment, increasing the risk of injury. Additionally, weights are frequently left scattered or not returned to their proper places, creating a hazardous training environment. Despite a recent increase in membership fees, the quality of service has declined, with reduced staffing and no corresponding improvement in facilities or cleanliness. Safety concerns raised with management receive little more than vague or dismissive responses. This gym no longer provides value for money and fails to meet basic standards of safety and professionalism.โ€

โ€œPool area has recently been refurbished however shower and changing area remains dirty and usually always has a stench, cleanliness is not prioritised here, one week I found feacal matter smeared on the toilet roll holder in the female toilets. As if this wasnโ€™t awful enough, my 4 year old, amongst others in the same class, was left in tears for 2 weeks in a row by the same teacher. I went to reception to complain only to be told to move sessions to a different day. Very sad that my child will no longer be using the services here due to staff who clearly arenโ€™t bothered about customer complaints or cleanliness of this place.โ€

โ€œCan someone please pick up the telephone lines? Please see for yourself. Call their number you will never get anyone pic up the calls just voicemail. The only communication you get from stetchford leisure centre is the amount of cancellations you get for the swimming lessons. Youโ€™ll get a call on the day to advise of cancellations- sometimes very close to the classes. Nobody picks up the calls. The manager is non existent. I am spending so much on numerous memberships to be ignored. Itโ€™s very unprofessional and your staffing levels shouldnโ€™t be the reason why we get penalised- refund us for all the cancelled lessons!โ€
