1 / 3The Climbing Hangar Liverpool South
📍 Garston, Merseyside
Indoor climbing gym in Garston with Rock Club programs for children from age 5, Women Rock sessions, weights section, cafe, and parking. Staff are praised for building long-term confidence in young climbers including those with mobility challenges.
I signed my 5-year-old daughter up for Rock Club in May 2024, and she has loved it from the start. Despite some mobility challenges, her first coach, Spike, was incredible—ensuring she had fun while making genuine progress every single week. Fast forward nearly two years, and it feels like family; she knows all the staff by name and they always welcome her personally. I’ve even started climbing myself! Now, we come together twice a week after school just for fun. I couldn’t be happier with what the Hangar offers both kids and adults. I’d recommend the sport to anyone—give it a go, you’ll likely fall in love with it! A huge thanks to the whole Matchworks team for being so welcoming, and specifically to Eryn, Lula, Jack, Adam, Matt, and Niamh for being such fantastic Rock Club Mini coaches.
🏆 Family Action Verdict
Best for families wanting a structured long-term climbing programme for children from age 5. Rock Club builds skills progressively over weeks and months — this is not a drop-in activity centre, it is a proper coaching environment. Children with mobility challenges are actively accommodated by experienced coaches.

“Really loved this climbing venue, my favourite of the climbing hangars I've been. And definitely one of my favourite climbing experiences. There were so many small challenges to do that were beginner friendly and lovely to brush up on your techniques. They were definitely a highlight of the venue. And it was really big, quite impressed.”

“I've been going to Women Rock at The Hangar since January 2024 and Tong has helped my climbing throughout, from doing my first blue at my first time at Women Rock, to helping me with a yellow literally yesterday. Not only has she helped with my climbing but has also created a super nice community where I've made a ton of new friends 🫶”

“sometimes the music is hit and miss but today I’ve enjoyed it thoroughly, lots of R.E.M, And She Was (talking heads), and The Killing Moon (echo and the bunnymen). absolute treat, shame about the Oasis”
