1 / 3The Peacock Railway
📍 Nantwich, North West
South Cheshire Model Engineering Society runs 2.5", 3.5", 5" and Gauge 1 tracks spanning almost a quarter mile. Public rides available on special open days, including Heritage Days events.
A small hidden away miniature railway gem behind the Peacock Inn and Premier Inn hotel, where I went around the small tracks of the site on the train ride, hanged out and talked to both volunteers and visitors there at the site The place was open on Saturday during an Open Heritage Days event, where other visiting miniature gauge Locos were brought in for the day to look at and no cost to enter the place as well during the event, overall a wonderful time.
🏆 Family Action Verdict
Best for families with train-loving children of any age who can plan around open day schedules. Toddlers ride comfortably in adult laps. The intimate volunteer atmosphere means children get real interaction with enthusiasts. Scout refreshment tents on open days add to the event feel.

“Lovely setting for a Gauge 1 & 5" Gauge railway. It is a Model Engineering Society. You have to go through a premier in car park to get to the entrance, but once you are there the setting is fabulous. This is private club for members/invited visitors only.”

Overview
The Peacock Railway features four gauge tracks with automatic signalling, operated by the South Cheshire Model Engineering Society since at least the late 2000s. Open days run throughout the year for public rides, and Heritage Days events bring free entry. Volunteers are knowledgeable and welcoming. The hidden location behind the Premier Inn adds to the charm — look for the entrance through the car park. Vintage car displays sometimes run alongside the trains.
