1 / 2The Reach Climbing Wall
đ London, Greater London
Indoor climbing gym in Woolwich with bouldering up to 4.5m, auto-belay walls, and roped routes reaching 17m. Over 300 routes across all grades, plus two-day beginner courses that teach both climbing and belaying.
I've climbed at gyms all over London, and nothing compares to The Reach in Woolwich. From the moment you walk in, there's a lovely vibe - welcoming, unpretentious, and genuinely supportive. The route setting is absolutely top-tier. I'm constantly impressed by how thoughtful and varied the problems are - technical slabs that make you think, powerful overhangs that get your heart pumping, and everything in between. The setters clearly understand how to create climbs that are challenging but fair, and they manage to keep things fresh. But what really makes The Reach special is the people. The staff are genuinely lovely humans who create an atmosphere that feels more like a community than just a gym. If you're looking for a climbing gym in London, do yourself a favour and check out The Reach. It's become my happy place, and I can't recommend it highly enough.
đ Family Action Verdict
Best for families ready to learn proper climbing technique together. The two-day beginner course is specifically designed for parents wanting to support children who climb. Staff conduct safety briefings before every session and are praised for their patience and technical knowledge. Suits complete beginners and developing climbers equally well.

âIt was my first time top roping today and I came to the reach with some experienced people. The member of staff Zora was incredibly helpful and friendly, nothing was too much to ask! They even showed me different types of Belay devices that might help my problems. They are super attentive and funny and wonderful to have in the gym! I loved my time at the reach and I will definitely be backâ

âI've just completed a two day rope skills and beginners climbing course here. Paul was an excellent teacher with a great sense of humour. My daughter is doing a climbing course here and now I can support her when she wants to climb. Highly recommended plus the on-site cafe sells tasty food (great flapjacks).â
