1 / 3Thornton Heath Leisure Centre
π Thornton Heath, Greater London
Swimming centre in Thornton Heath with highly-rated instructors, including specialists for children with autism. Swimming lessons are the main draw. Changing facilities have hygiene notes and the pool can be very crowded during popular sessions.
Kristina was so amazing!! As soon as I entered the building she was so helpful and guided me through the membership process. She honestly went above and beyond. π Thank you so much Kristina π
π Family Action Verdict
The swimming lesson programme β particularly for children with autism β is the clearest reason to choose this centre. Instructor Karen receives specific praise for her adaptive teaching. For general leisure swimming, the high session occupancy and changing room hygiene reports are factors to weigh up before visiting.

βKaren is a wonderful swimming instructor! π I highly recommend her to everyone. My child with autism has been taking lessons with her, and I can see huge progress. Karen has an amazing teaching approach β she finds the right way to connect with each child. She is also a very kind and caring person with a big heart. Thank you, Karen, for your patience, support, and love for children!β

βI love this centre, and some sessions are amazingβespecially aqua aerobics, which is just so cool. BUT do you really think that 60 people in the pool is a reasonable number for everyone to feel comfortable and enjoy it? Today, I left the swimming pool after just 15 minutes because there were 15 people in one lane (the slow one). Some of them werenβt slow at all but suddenly decided to use this lane. Others were just standing and chatting in the same spot. I got hit in the head twice by the leg of a woman who was swimming so fast and didnβt care about people around her. Why she even decided to go on the slow lane lol And the most awful thingβhair! There was a lady with her hair down, and none of the staff told her it was forbidden. I literally had someoneβs hair stuck to my bodyβdisgusting! When I reported this to the receptionist, she didnβt even know about the rule regarding hair. Worse, she didnβt care. She also said that you canβt control it and that 15 people in one lane is fine for you. I understand that the pool is big, and technically, you could fit even 100 people in there. But for the comfort of your visitors, you really need to reduce the maximum number of people allowedβjust like you do for other classes and sessions. Even 8-10 people in the same lane is too much! It would also be great if your staff actually monitored and enforced the rules, ensuring that women tie their hair up and that people use the appropriate lanes. This was an absolutely disappointing experience.β
