V&A East Storehouse
π London, Greater London
A three-level working storehouse where half a million V&A objects are accessible via QR codes, curated mini displays, free Object Encounters sessions, and a conservation studio viewing window. Free entry.
I think you just love the place, simple as that. Yes it's not your traditional white cubes where arts are selected and curated apart to show you, instead it's a warehouse where you can explore with information provided at your own pace. We visited in Thursday evening which opens till 10pm. Not crowded and almost visit every corner. I wish the objects on display get rotated more often too and that more routes will be opened and connected to the public. The architecture is unpretentious on the outside, just a big warehouse, and the interior has been kept true, though with impressive height and volume to display arts and objects. Lots of items you get to touch and read and look at closely. I also wish the app could have AR enabled to introduce objects in a more organised and informed way.
π Family Action Verdict
Best for families with curious older children who enjoy self-directed exploration rather than linear exhibits. The warehouse format rewards wanderers β there is no set route and discoveries feel genuinely accidental. The Object Encounters sessions suit children who want to get close to real artefacts with staff guidance.

βWhat an incredible place. Walk in their staffs are very helpful. Locker is useful as inside temperature is warm due to winter with a big coat and bag can leave it in. Over 1 hours an half and still not enough time as weβre on the schedule for other place. Highly recommended the history there is unreal, the display is from comic zines, mugs, old fashion, robinhood garden building, Frankfurt kitchen in 1942 and 1500 chest drawersβ¦β¦ What an awesome collection and whatever you into in history. Itβs an ongoing collection to go to check out.β

βWas invited here by a friend who had been gifted a trip to the curated personal viewing room ("Order an Object"). I knew of the V&A museum but was unaware of the warehouse and I think the warehouse is the way to go! We were able to interact with my friend's 5 objects and then explored the warehouse including the David Bowie collection. It reminds me of the warehouse at the end of "Raiders of the Lost Ark". We both loved it and the building is amazing too. No sign of the Ark of the Covenant though (it's probably in a secret area)β

βIt is most magnificent and extraordinary museum. I went on a Friday and there was a student art installations exhibition going on. It was impressive to see the work of them, and it was an amazing experience to visit the museum. The Cafe was serving delicious and fresh food. There was many intriguing items and many levels and rooms to visit. Highly recommended.β
