We had been to a number of riding stables before finding this gem. My daughter rides and volunteers here she is so passionate about horses not just riding. It is great how the stables have encouraged her to understand riding is only one small part of being around horses. Ashton Hall has given her the space and opportunity to spend quality time with so many of the horses. We have seen her riding ability develop through out the past year all well as her self confidence, work ethic and passion for equine animals as a whole. She has made new friends along the way, some even have two legs. Ashton hall offers group lesson, individual lessons, hacks, pony loan, farm experience and full livery, the full equine package. There is parking on site, all areas are well kept, large areas for the lessons and various stable blocks. Tom, Lisa and their team have created an amazing riding school and livery. All the horses and ponies have their own personalities and quirks all which I feel shows how well they are all treated and cared for. Look out for the dog who likes to bring you stones for him to catch. I cannot recommend Ashton Hall enough.

🏆 Family Action Verdict

Best for children who are serious about horses and want instruction that builds genuine understanding, not just lesson-by-lesson riding time. The volunteering pathway suits children who want to immerse themselves in stable life.

â„šī¸ What to Know Before You Go

💡Returning riders who haven't ridden recently will be assessed before joining hacks
⏰Children interested in volunteering should ask about stable involvement beyond their lessons
đŸŽŸī¸Facilities are basic — dress for a working yard rather than a smart equestrian centre
🚗Call ahead to confirm lesson times as start times can vary

“We are ladies of advanced years, that wanted to give horse riding a try. We see it as another tick on our bucket list. From our meeting with Tom, who made us feel welcome and assured, to the first walk-out with the girls, Courtney and Casey, we felt comfortable and safe. The stables are clean and tidy and the horses are well looked after. Our lovely horses, Alice and Scooby, seemed to sense that we were complete novices. We thoroughly enjoyed our first experience. Unfortunately the weather was so bad on our second visit that we had to abandon the walk-out, but we are definitely going to see this through. A few more walk-outs and then lessons!”

“I tried a number of riding schools over the years, but instructors at Ashton were the first to actually explain how and why to do something, rather than just saying what to do. My riding has improved significantly thanks to Ashton. It's a little disorganised, but I think that's a small shortcoming. Even if a lesson starts late, you'll still have the riding time you're paying for. Everyone at Ashton is very kind and friendly, and lessons are helpful AND enjoyable. There is a good variety of horses, and they are well trained and clearly well treated.”

“Came here for my first riding lesson in a while expecting to have an average riding lesson, 20 minutes in I was on the floor waiting for an ambulance! There was no first aid whatsoever and I had to sit with a dogs towel around my arm to stop the bleeding. No ambulance was rang for me so my poor mother had to run all the way around the site trying to find someone who will help. I would not recommend this riding school whatsoever! Absolute disgrace!”
