We visited yesterday for the Santa experience and it was so magical. We turned up 20 minutes before our allotted time. We were greeted with a complimentary hot drink which we enjoyed whilst our children made keepsake Christmas handprints. We got on the train and went to see Santa. The train was decorated all Christmassy which my son loved and then the walk through the woods was also full of Christmassy lights. Our son has always been a bit nervous about Santa but this one was really kind and our son was over the moon with his present. We finished off with pizza afterwards! Lovely little afternoon out. Next year we may try and book a slightly later slot to enjoy the lights in the dark! We will definitely be returning next year. It made such a lovely change from the hideously busy and over commercialised Christmas events.

🏆 Family Action Verdict

Best for train-enthusiast families and those seeking a less commercial Christmas experience than theme park alternatives. The all-day riding structure rewards families who want to linger and ride multiple times rather than a single timed experience. Santa trains sell out weeks ahead — book the moment tickets go live.

ℹ️ What to Know Before You Go

💡Santa train tickets sell out weeks in advance — set a reminder and book as soon as the booking window opens
Bring a torch for evening Christmas visits — the car park is unlit and the ground is uneven
🎟️Later time slots for Santa trains let you see the woodland lights properly in the dark
🚗Adults will find wooden carriage seats more comfortable with a small cushion

We recently hosted a birthday party here and I couldn't sing their praises enough. What a wonderful place with such kind and helpful staff. Everyone here was so helpful, the weather wasn't great and all the staff pitched in helping us move things from the cars, set up gazebos and get everything ready. In terms of planning they were so flexible and couldn't do enough to get things just how we wanted them. The kids had the best time, it's a great venue with a great mix of engines and beautiful scenery to ride the trains through. The birthday boy even got a chance to drive one of the trains which absolutely made his day. Thanks!

A really worth while day out for children and adults alike! Over a mile of track. For £5 a person you can ride as many trains as you like all day!!!! Heaven for all enthusiastic train buffs! Lovely cafe next to the site. If the weather is good, take a picnic. Would advise the ladies to take a small cushion to use to sit on the trains. The wooden seats are a bit hard!!!! Well worth a visit and a cheap day out!

My sister booked tickets in advance of about a month and so glad she did, what a wonderful experience, so magical going on the train to see santa/father Christmas in the forest with all the Christmas lights and decorations. The elves were so lovely and friendly and kind. Would thoroughly recommend . Thank you so much 💓
