1 / 3Blackpool Zoo
๐ Blackpool, Merseyside
Blackpool Zoo covers flat, accessible grounds with Project Elephant Base Camp, Giraffe Heights Kidepo Trail, Lemur Wood, Dinosaur Safari, and The Playbarn. Daily keeper talks and sea lion demonstrations run throughout the day.
We had a fantastic family day out at Blackpool Zoo! It is easily one of the best attractions in the area. The entire site is so well-maintained, and the layout is perfect for the kids to explore without getting too tired. โA huge shout-out to the staffโeveryone we encountered was brilliant, friendly, and clearly very knowledgeable about the animals. It makes such a difference when the team is so welcoming. โThe highlight for us was definitely the elephants. The Project Elephant Base Camp is an incredible facility, and seeing the herd (especially the young calf, Zaiya!) was just spectacular. The kids haven't stopped talking about them since we left. โWhether you're local or just visiting Blackpool, this is a must-visit. Weโll certainly be back! โA few tips for your next visit: โElephant Timing: If you head to the "Base Camp" around feeding time or during a keeper talk, you can usually get a great view from the high-level internal walkway. โPram Friendly: Since the zoo is predominantly flat, it's very easy to navigate if you're taking a pushchair for the younger ones. โNew for 2026: Keep an eye out for the new Project Giraffe area which is set to open around Easter this year!
๐ Family Action Verdict
Best for families with children of any age seeking a full-day zoo visit on flat, accessible grounds. Elephant feeding times from the internal walkway give sheltered close-up viewing regardless of weather. Collect the daily talk schedule from the ticket office on arrival โ the sea lion demonstration is consistently recommended by reviewers.

โBlackpool zoo is a great attraction for all the family. With plenty to see and do, you will easily spend a full day here. There are leaflets available at the ticket office with information about daily animal talks/shows. We saw the sea lion one today which was well worth a look. There is a play area for young children and plenty of seasonal kiosks dotted about with ample seating. The main cafe is large with a selection of pricey food and drinks but you expect it at such attractions. Plenty of toilets and well maintained pathways for prams/wheelchairs. Shop at the exit is on the small side with highly priced children's toys, again to be expected. A bit odd the car park is pay and display-about an extra ยฃ4.50 on top of the entrance fee. That being said a great was had by all!โ

โThe reduced level of activity during my visit provided an ideal environment for observing the animal inhabitants and their behaviors, allowing for excellent photographic opportunities. Additionally, the extensive layout offers a beneficial opportunity for physical activity. Ample seating is readily available throughout the premises. The informational resources are comprehensive, and the staff members are consistently welcoming and courteous. Enclosure size has increased and there seem to be work done on other enclosures. Great day out with friends capturing, learning & understanding especially if you live animals.โ

โBlackpool Zoo is a fantastic day out for families. The zoo is spacious, well laid out, and easy to get around, even with children. Thereโs a great variety of animals, all in well-kept enclosures, and plenty of information boards to make it educational too. We especially loved the playground areas and cafe, which made it easy to spend the whole day there. Staff were friendly, facilities were clean, and everything felt well organised. A brilliant place for a relaxed but exciting family day out, weโll definitely be visiting again.โ
