1 / 2Bollington Discovery Centre
đ Macclesfield, North West
Compact free museum in Bollington documenting the town's cotton mill industry, canal network, and social history. Stocks walking and cycling maps for the Middlewood Way and surrounding canal routes.
We visited to collect a Book originally ordered online due to Lockdown but all the Staff we came into contact with were very friendly & helpful & we organised to collect it in person - a gift for Easter - Whilst only there a few minutes it clearly has a lot of local interesting leaflets, books etc & we will certainly visit it again when it re-opens - ideally placed on the Canal and close to the Middlewood Way - well worth a visit to find out more about the area.
đ Family Action Verdict
Best for families with older children who engage with industrial and social history, or for any family using the centre as a launchpad for a canal walk or Middlewood Way cycle. The compact scale suits a 30â45 minute visit rather than a standalone day out. Free admission and a genuinely useful map selection make it worth a stop.

âFascinating free museum of local history associated with the cotton mill, the canals and local people - a great source of maps to takeaway and purchase for walks / cycling around the local areaâ

âSmall but well done local history display. Does a good job trying local industrial and social changes to larger forces at work.â
