Canons Leisure Centre Mitcham
π Mitcham, Greater London
Bright, clean leisure centre in Mitcham with swimming pools, gym, badminton courts, and gymnastics programmes. Birthday party hosting available. Parking on site.
Bright, open and clean. Service equally gleans. Nothing's too much. Always a pleasure served with equal measure. Lights always shine brightly especially this Christmas time. The Christmas cheer always near. A delight to see the swimming pool sparkly, gleaming with swimmers beaming. #thepoetreviewer
π Family Action Verdict
Best for families with school-age children who want access to swimming, court sports, and gym in one site. The facilities are clean and the programming is varied. Parents of toddlers should supervise closely in the under-2s area during busy sessions β older children have been observed using this space without redirection.

βCanons features an on-site leisure centre, offering a range of activities including swimming, gym facilities, badminton, and gymnastics. The surrounding grounds complement the leisure centre, providing additional amenities such as a well-being centre with a small cafe. Furthermore, the location hosts various events and is enriched by its historical significance.β

βThe equipment is good, however the under 2s section needs to be better policed; there were lots of much older children using this area and at times it did feel quite unsafe for my 1 year old and she was prevented from accessing the space and the resources properly. I know a lot of it does come down to parents supervising their children, and a staff member did come around from time to time to check that the area was only being used by toddlers, however it does need to be better managed to ensure safety.β

βI came in today to inquire about tennis lessons for my kid. As soon as we walked in, there was no one at reception as it was not busy. There is a button you can press to request assistance at the front desk, and as soon as I pressed it, an older lady came out looking clearly annoyed. I apologized because I hadnβt seen her before, but she said absolutely nothing, no greeting or acknowledgment. She silently went behind the desk and asked how she could help. I explained that I had seen the center offers tennis classes for children and wanted some information, such as whether I need to buy the rackets or if they are provided by the center. She replied that she βthoughtβ the teacher provides them. Every other question I asked was answered in a way that made me feel like I was wasting her time. I then asked if I could see the court where the kids have their lessons, and again, with a very dismissive attitude, she said it wasnβt set up and there was no point. At this point I started to lose my patience with her attitude so I firmly asked again if I could see it anyway. Only then did she finally let me in. I have worked in hospitality for many years, including at the front desk of a leisure center, and I have never seen or experienced such poor customer service. If you are not happy at your work place, you just need to leave, there is no point and treat people badly, specially when you have never seen them before. As I was not offered to have a look around the center, I can only review the experience I had with this member of staff, the facilities seem to be in good condition.β

Overview
Canons Leisure Centre runs swimming, gym, badminton, and gymnastics across bright, well-lit facilities. A wellbeing centre with a small cafΓ© sits within the grounds. Birthday party packages are available. The under-2s soft play area is a draw for toddler families, and it has been used by older children during busy periods in recent visits. Reception staffing has drawn criticism in multiple recent reviews for unhelpful interactions.
