1 / 2Handforth Miniature Railway
📍 Wilmslow, North West
Community-operated miniature railway run by the Handforth Model Engineering Society in Meriton Road Park. Operates Sundays and school holiday Wednesdays with both ground-level and raised tracks. Free park entry.
We visited today and all the staff were very friendly and made us feel very welcome. Isaac enjoyed going on all the trains you guys had running, it certainly made his day. Thanks for all the Recommendations for the other mini railways. Really nice to meet you and we will probably see you soon.
🏆 Family Action Verdict
Exceptional for train-loving children and families who appreciate a genuinely warm, community-run atmosphere over a commercial attraction. Volunteers give the visit real character — they explain the trains, engage directly with children, and make every family feel welcome. Adults enjoy it as much as children do.

“My husband, young daughter and I had a wonderful time on the miniature trains at Meriton Park. I’m not sure who had more fun-the little one or my husband! The people who run it are always welcoming and clearly love what they do!”

Overview
Handforth Miniature Railway is run entirely by volunteers from the Handforth Model Engineering Society, operating two track types — ground level and raised — inside Meriton Road Park. Multiple trains run during each session, with custom-built carriages and stations installed across the park. Volunteers actively engage visitors, explain the locomotives, and are happy to offer recommendations for other miniature railways to visit.
