I recently visited and was impressed with the facilities. The sauna gets very hot, which is a big plus for those who really want an effective sweat session. While it can get a bit crowded during peak hours, the experience is worth it. Even in the middle of winter, the entire building stays comfortably warm, so you never feel a chill between sessions. The pool water temperature is perfect—not too cold to jump into after the sauna, but refreshing enough for a good swim. Overall, the facility is clean and safe, which made me feel very comfortable throughout my visit. I would definitely recommend this place for the low price, free parking, and the excellent value it offers for a high-quality relaxation day on a budget.

🏆 Family Action Verdict

Best for families who want more than a basic pool — the specialised session schedule, from neurodiverse swims to female-only lanes, makes it accessible for a wide range of needs. The staff culture is genuinely supportive. Changing rooms have had persistent cleanliness complaints — bring your own soap and check facilities on arrival.

ℹ️ What to Know Before You Go

Brilliant staff and excellent all round facilities! They do everything from aqua fit to pilates, squash courts, female only gym and swim sessions to neurodiverse only sessions, they even have cricket wickets?! I just finished a 30km swim in 30 days and the staff were encouraging, and motivated me throughout the entire challenge. Highly recommend if you want a friendly and accessible leisure centre!

Great local place with plenty of outdoor and indoor facilities. It has been much improved since the recent renovations and is definitely worth a visit.

The entire place desperately needs a deep clean. Why am I paying £45 per month for mouldy showers and consistently dirty toilets and changing rooms? Also wish the women only swim sessions were more frequent, so that we may actually get to use the sauna or steam room. Spent an hour in the pool the other day and didn’t see a single woman even go near those facilities because they don’t wanna be wedged between creepy older men (who clearly think those facilities are theirs and theirs alone to use). Appreciate that the leisure centre can’t control this, but it’s a shame there aren’t more women only sessions so that girls and women might be able to use the facilities they pay the same fee for. One session a week at like 10pm is no good to most people. Love the women only gym mornings!

Overview

Hough End Leisure Centre's recent renovation added improved indoor and outdoor facilities including a sauna, expanded fitness studio, and new sports surfaces. The programming is notably broad — aqua fit, pilates, spin, squash, and dedicated sessions for neurodiverse swimmers and female-only swim times. The building retains heat well across seasons. A 30km swim-in-30-days challenge run by staff drew specific praise for encouragement.
