1 / 2Lake | South Norwood Country Park
đ Beckenham, Greater London
South Norwood Country Park centres on a lake with four formal viewing platforms overlooking diverse waterfowl including ducks, swans, and geese. Free entry, on-site cafe, car park, and pram-accessible trails throughout.
A fantastic oasis amid the wailing of Beckenham Goals and the screeching of its saddled tram station. There are 4 formal viewing points, each with a short trail through the shrubbery in order to catch sight of wildlife amid the reed beds. A fantastic number of species, but 2 of the 4 jetties have been taped off and dilapidated for the past 3 months. I think a few more accidents are required for them to be fixed - either that or it must be to do with the fact that it lies exactly on the boundary line of Croydon and Bromley; the most beautiful ransom strip I ever did see.
đ Family Action Verdict
Best for families with younger children or nature-curious kids who enjoy wildlife spotting at close range. The four viewing platforms give structure to the walk and make it easy to focus attention on specific areas of the lake. Dogs on leads are welcome, and unleashed dogs can disturb the waterfowl.

âThis park is really big and sometimes you can see ducks, but it does depend, if go with my friend and her spaniel sometimes the ducks fly away if he chases them. Otherwise there are ducks there. And I think geese or swans too.â

Overview
South Norwood Country Park offers a circular lake walk with four dedicated wildlife viewing platforms set into reed beds and shrubbery. Waterfowl species are consistently present, with ducks, swans, and geese all noted by regulars. The park is free to enter, has a cafe and car park, and paths are pram-friendly. Two of the four jetties have been closed due to disrepair.
