1 / 3Norton Priory Museum & Gardens
đ Runcorn, North West
Historic site with excavated 12th-century priory ruins, museum galleries spanning 900 years, a vaulted undercroft, Georgian Walled Garden, woodland walks alongside the Bridgewater Canal, and on-site Brooke Cafe.
Fantastic to visit! I visited during winter opening hours so the Walled Gardens are currently closed but this is reflected in the discounted ticket price. Highly recommend a visit. The museum is full of information and artifacts and the wine cellar, outside ruins and woodland are brilliant to explore. The staff were amazing - informative and friendly. The Walled Gardens being closed does not deflect from the visit and means an additional visit back in the spring :)
đ Family Action Verdict
Best for families with school-age children who enjoy combining history with outdoor exploration. The site splits naturally between the museum and garden areas, giving younger children outdoor space as older visitors engage with the artefacts and priory ruins. Dog-friendly throughout.

âFirst time visitor, and it definitely won't be my last. We had a brilliant day here, and need to come back to see the rest of it! Fascinating museum about the history of the site, the grounds are beautiful to walk around, and one section is right next to the Bridgewater Canal! Keep an eye out for the humongous Brazilian Rhubarb plant!! The cafe, wow! The food is amazing, and very reasonably priced too!â

âAmazing place with so many beautiful parts, the building including the undercroft are magical, the museum is so interesting and the gardens are gorgeous. They have lots of lovely events like Quince and Apple weekend, the Christmas fair and drama and poetry events. Well worth getting an annual membership as you will want to go back and there are lots of events included in membership plus discounts.â

âLovely place to visit and it has a nice cafe here as well. A little over priced at ÂŖ13.50 each but still a good day out, well worth the visit.â

Overview
Norton Priory preserves the excavated remains of a medieval Augustinian priory alongside museum galleries displaying 900 years of artefacts recovered from the site. The 12th-century undercroft with its vaulted ceiling is a standout. A twice life-size St Christopher statue anchors the museum's centrepiece gallery. Outside, the Georgian Walled Garden and woodland walks extend along the Bridgewater Canal. The Brooke Cafe serves food on site.
