Since Omniplex took over from Empire and fully refurbished the cinema, the difference is night and day. The overall appeal and cleanliness stand out immediately - it feels modern, fresh, and far more inviting than before. Even the toilets, which were previously in a poor state, are now clean, modern, and well looked after, which just adds to the improved overall experience. The new seating is a huge improvement; you no longer feel like you’re perched on a plank of wood. They’re genuinely comfortable now, which makes a big difference during a long film. The lobby area is brighter and more welcoming, and there’s a wide range of food, snacks, and drinks available. The push towards automation with ticket and food-ordering screens means there’s little need for human interaction, but personally that doesn’t bother me. Atmosphere-wise, the whole place feels happier. Even the staff seem more upbeat, which I’d put down to working in a venue that’s now of a much higher standard. Pricing feels fair, and the Omnipass option is a good deal. It differs slightly from Odeon’s pass in that you can only see each film once, but realistically most people don’t watch the same movie multiple times in the cinema anyway. One of the best additions is the events where they bring back older films - it keeps things varied and fills the gaps when certain genres aren’t showing. I find myself going far more often now. In fact, back when it was Empire, I’d avoid it completely and head into Birmingham to Odeon instead because the experience here was so poor. Now, with the investment from Omniplex, it’s a completely different story. I’d highly recommend anyone who hasn’t been in a while to give it another go - it’s gone from being one of the worst local cinema experiences to one of the best.

🏆 Family Action Verdict

Best for families who want a modern, comfortable cinema experience without city centre traffic or parking costs. The reclining seats and clean facilities suit all ages. Screens can run cool so a light layer helps. Concessions are cinema-priced — eating beforehand or bringing snacks is a practical choice for larger families.

ℹ️ What to Know Before You Go

💡Free parking available for up to five hours in the adjacent car park
Both self-service kiosks and manned counters are available for tickets and food
🎟️Bring a light jacket as screens can be chilly
🚗Vegetarian food options are sparse — consider eating beforehand

Great cinema! The upgrade to the old Empire cinema is great. I think the price point is pretty good compared to city centre cinemas at under 10 quid a ticket. Free parking and comfy seats make it an excellent choice. I miss the names of stars on the old toilet cubicles but theres nothing to be done about that and most of the celebrities were probably passé anyway 😅 I had to strongly consider whether marking down for food as it is on the dear side and I would love a veggie hot dog. I think only vegetarian options were margarita pizza, nachos and chips. Maybe this could be a suggestion!

Great cinema! Really clean and comfortable seats, friendly staff. Retro vibes throughout cinema along with American dining themed food and drink with seating outside the screens. Pick n mix, hot food, alcohol. Disappointed by the Chicken Tenders, a bit dry and had a weird coating, but could just be my personal tastes. Bit pricey but to be expected and staff were slow to start cooking food. Free parking, lots of spaces Recliners, sofas and limited wheelchair space. Toilet doors in Women's could have hooks for bags.

Well, a first from me..a cinema review! I love movies and the new look Omniplex serves my addiction well. This place is clean, modern and different. The seats are recliners and comfy, the sound system and picture quality (One Battle After Another) which is important (obviously 😂) were brilliant. An important point: the screening wasn't full of social media absorbed, mobile phone addicted, self entitled idiots. Always a bonus. Looking forward to watching Avatar 3 here
