1 / 3Sandwell Aquatics Centre
📍 Smethwick, West Midlands
World-class aquatics centre built for the 2022 Commonwealth Games, featuring a 50m Olympic pool, 25m dive pool with 10m tower, community pool, gym, sauna, and cafe. Changing facilities for up to 800 people.
Visited on a Sunday with my daughter and her friends, missed the 1:15pm session as it was already full, so waited a hour for the next session. For the family sessions I think a few floats in the fool would make it more fun 👍🏻 Nice clean place with friendly staff. Shout out to the lifeguards who never took their eyes off the pool. Cafe inside, loads of parking. EDIT Visited again on Saturday 13th September with my daughter to the free drive session, Dan G diving instructor was amazing.. helped my daughter the basics on diving, thanks a lot mate. Credit to the company.
🏆 Family Action Verdict
Best for families visiting specifically for the pool facilities, where the quality and lifeguard attentiveness are genuine strengths. The 50m pool is among the best publicly accessible pools in the West Midlands.

“First time I have been here for the ladies swim. It was a lovely experience. For ladies changing and showers go in to the ladies group entrance. This is located on your left as you enter the changing room. This leads to a separate entrance to the instructor pool which is private for ladies only at certain times of the week. The showers were lovely and hot. Bring £1 for the lockers Haven’t tried the sauna yet but I know it’s on the top floor so you have to get dressed and then get the lift or stairs up after your swim.”

“Where do I start with this catastrophic establishment. My mother-in-law went to book herself and my baby for weekly swimming lessons they took down all the details including his DOB (he is 13 months) when she got home she gave me the slip. (It said 5:30pm even though she was told 4:30pm). I went online to check and they booked him onto the 19-36mnth old session. I then called the centre to clarify why they have done this. They said they spoke to the swimming teacher and the teacher said not to worry he is allowed to go in as they go at the same pace. So my son went for his first session went perfectly fine. When we went to the second session we were told he’s not allowed to go in! As he’s too young and for insurance purposes he can get a ‘shock’. So the prior week he couldn’t get a shock then? I then explained I even checked myself and called them to ask why they booked on the session and they said it’s fine. And he went in last week so how does this make sense. The manager was very nice but better training needs to be given to staff as this was ridiculous and wasted my time. On top of that they promised a refund and no money would come out of the direct debit. They gave a refund (which took over a week) but suprise suprise the direct debit came out of our account which they took the absolute Michael to refund back! Honestly the training here is so poor and what they have done to put my child at risk is absolutely appalling. And oh get this he’s allowed to come for public swimming haha won’t he get a shock then as well. They have taken a direct debit from my account twice now! Despite them saying they will cancel the DD over a month ago!!!!”

“DISAPPOINTING MEMBERSHIP EXPERIENCE ❗️Be cautious before signing up – terms can change, and flexibility is very limited❗️ I joined under specific terms, including free off-peak badminton. In December 2025 I was given very short notice that the monthly fee would increase and that this benefit would be removed from January. When I requested to cancel immediately due to these changes, I was told the 30-day notice period “could not be waived”, despite the contract being materially altered by the provider. Emails requesting a managerial review were simply ignored. I eventually paid an extra month just to avoid further stress, but I won’t be returning. The facilities themselves are fine, but the membership handling and customer service were extremely disappointing.”
